My BIL is moving to assisted living at age 86. He is going through his things. These quilts were in a trunk that he has not opened in over 40 years. He gave them to me to see if they coud be saved. These have only minor issues-need to be cleaned. Thought I would share and request your help In block id. Thanks !!

He said His Mother made them. She was born 1888 died 1968. Walker County Al. He packed the trunk when she died. When he was growing up, quilts were made for use. They didn't buy "Store bought". These they thought were not good enough to use. They do have small issues. I wouldn't "use" them but will display them.

Beautiful quilts!

midwestmarykay 01-11-2013 05:27 PM

I have consulted my copy of the book The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns compiled by Jinny Beyer.

The first quilt is a Sailor's Joy Patch.

The third quilt is called a Philadelphia Patch.

I'm still workin' on the second quilt ;-))

Virginiagirl 01-12-2013 04:15 AM

Lovely find. The same thing happened to me. My husbands aunt gave us an antique trunk unopened and it was full of lovely old quilts that his great aunts had made. Mostly scrappy but beautiful.
