Cute! Pixies were so common at one time!

LoriEl 08-05-2011 01:59 PM

It was good of you to rescue it! It looks old and probably took someone a lot of time and care to make. I hope it washes up nicely.

QuiltingJaguar 08-05-2011 01:59 PM

I have picked up many stained pieces like this, bring home and wash. I cut off the hand done section and put it in the middle of a square of crazy quilt pieces, makes a wonderful quilt and reminds you some lady probably spent hours working on this.

doll-lady 08-05-2011 01:59 PM

that is cute. i hope it washes up good for you.

TeddyB1967 08-05-2011 02:00 PM

That's adorable. I would have sagged it up too
Hopefully the stains come out.

Think she made a point of using 'all fabric' bleach

So cute. Glad it has a home to come too.

carolaug 08-05-2011 04:06 PM

I think I would cut them in squares and make a larger quilt...someone did a great job!

Jingle 08-05-2011 04:15 PM

So very cute, pixies are very cute. Lots of time and work went into this. So good of you to rescue it and give it a home. Always a fear that one of mine would end up like that.

Tink's Mom 08-05-2011 04:42 PM

try soaking in oxyclean and water overnight...I think that will remove most stains...
That is a real treasure...

Painiacs 08-05-2011 06:04 PM

That's adorable.

debbieumphress 08-05-2011 08:02 PM

I think it is so sad when I find things like this. I rescue quilts all the time and embroider items. Great find.

gigi4419 08-06-2011 04:38 AM

Lucky you!

talkn58 08-06-2011 04:49 AM

Dang YOU are so lucky!!!
I love the old linens!!

Soak stained linens in Oxyclean.
Be sure it is well dissolved first.

I had an old piece that I took to a professional fabric restorer-- not sure of his correct title. He works with fabric thousands of years old for Chicago museums and he said the Oxyclean is similar type process to what he uses.
That's a great endorsement for me!!

MS quilter 08-06-2011 04:53 AM

That's great. Don't you wish you knew the story behind it?

cjaye44 08-06-2011 05:04 AM

A lot of work went into that! so glad you rescued it!!

Zappycat 08-06-2011 05:07 AM

Hope it comes clean for you! I would have snatched it too! I bought a quilt recently at a flea market for $20. It had stains and what I thought were mildew stains as well. I never thought it would come clean and I planned to cut it up if it didn't. To my surprise, it came out gorgeous! What a steal!

vivoaks 08-06-2011 05:16 AM

That is Sooooo Cute!!

MimiLinda 08-06-2011 05:24 AM
