Free Pattern...had to try it!
1 Attachment(s)
I found this free pattern in an advertisement in the March-April Quiltmaker magazine and had to try it. I did modify it by adding the additional blue border around the bottom along with extra stars. I machine quilted it and hand quilted the small stars in the center along with a star quilted in the middle of each. I started it in January on my 1950 Singer 301a and finished it today. I learned a lot, just like I do on every quilt. Oh, yes, I didn't go out and buy a single piece of fabric. All of the fabric including the backing was from my stash. Hey great quilters, I am learning from all of you.

Very pretty, love your color choices. Don't we love free patterns..............................? :)

Beautiful! I'll have to get a copy and try that one ... don't think it looked that good in the magazine ... or it didn't attract my attention .... but your's turned out awewome.

Great pattern!!!! The border just completes this quilt. How nice to have a stash that came together like this.
Lovely quilt! Neat that is was all from stash, and sewn on your 301A!! :)
This is an awesome quilt. What is the name of the pattern as I would love to find it and make the quilt. Your added touches made it a real beauty.
I love it! I love your choices of fabrics and the overall design. Is the pattern on line somewhere, for free? If so, can you send a link.
But anyway, can you tell us the size of the squares in the middle? |
Beautiful. I love everything about it.
Boy, that's one BIG star.. Love it. Glad you could reduce (?) your stash/es….
Very nice work.
That's lovely: you must have a pretty impressive stash to pull that out of the hat!
That is sharp! And I bet if one wanted to do a lap or smaller you might be able to stop at the first blue section. I will look that up and consider it for a veteran's quilt. Thanks for sharing.
neat quilt. Looks patriotic. You did a great job.
Looks great! I have a red, white, blue room that quilt would look fantastic in!! So if you ever get tired of it....;)

The name of the quilt is "Broad Stripes, Bright Star" by Darlene Zimmerman and I found the pattern at www.robertkaufman.com. and the original size of the quilt was 76" by 76" and the finished size of the small stars in the center was 6" x 6". I found the advertisement in "Quiltmaker" March/April 2014 issue. There was another site listed in the ad - swatchandstitch.com. Hope this answers everyone's questions. My second quilt was a civil war quilt and I had fabric left over (and all of you said "save the extra" fabric) and that is what I used to make this quilt.
