front door 'wreath'

2 Attachment(s)
Last Xmas I thought, after making a quilted 'wreath' for our front door, I'd try and make one for each season. I might even branch off to one a month!
So far, I have 2 LOL
This is Autumn's. I also thought I'd add a basenji to each item I made for myself. Here, I added a pup in a bag - looking for Xmas purchases maybe?

(I know I might not make another, but 'snow in January' is planned)

Yarn or Fabric 11-03-2013 04:35 AM

I wish I could hang a small quilt on the front door.. I don't have a screen/glass door so I can't :'( Hubby doesn't think we could add one to our door for some reason - I think that's code for I don't want to do it lol.
Yours is really nice. I like it a lot.

Quiltshaker 11-03-2013 05:08 AM

Thanks for the compliments.
It's 18 inches square
It's hung by a hook that they sell at Xmas time. It's a magnetic hook, and RED, but our door is metal, and the hook is hidden by the wreath. I put triangles in the back of the piece and so far just balancing it on the hook keeps it centered.
I just thought of something - I've seen little metal hooks with magnets on them that I think would work too, when I go to Home Depot or Lowes with my husband
2 reasons I don't hang a traditional wreath:
There's only a few inches between the doors (a fatter wreath would get squished), and in the past a traditional wreath, usually on a wire frame, scratched up the door.

And to the person that commented on 'perfect quilting' With this one I learned to make sure the quilting pattern is not hidden in any area by the binding. But, I have never had anyone from the quilt police come to my door and ring the doorbell, though I do suppose it's possible they came to the door, looked, and ran away laughing!

What a wonderful front porch! I love your welcome hanger too, what a great idea.
We had a blue and white house in davenport, Ia. I loved it.

Vat 11-04-2013 04:08 AM

I did this several years ago for my mother and mother-in-laws doors at the assisted living. One for every month (and they are not all the same size or shape, which makes them also very interesting.

October: Pumpkins
November: Turkeys
December: Cane Canes (also Package)
January: Snowmen
February: Hearts
March: Shamrocks (also Kites)
April: Easter Crosses
May: Roses
June: Flip Flops
July: Flag
August: Cats (also CupCakes)
September: Apples

All the lady residents love (the men don't think to much about them). HA HA ! ! !

Vat 11-04-2013 04:11 AM

Also , I hang them with a wreath hanger and put a split sleeve on the back of the quilts. And I mean two (2) shorter sleeves on the back that has a space between the two sleeves. Works great ! !

nls 11-04-2013 04:16 AM

What a smart idea! Uh oh, something for me to add to my list of projects :-)

sparkys_mom 11-04-2013 04:49 AM

What a great idea! The storm door on my front door fits too closely to hang a traditional wreath. I never thought about doing a 'door hanging' but now I will. Thanks! :)

bggale68 11-04-2013 05:54 AM

I love your fall quilt. I have the perfect window for one. Do you have a picture of your winter or Christmas quilt?

WMUTeach 11-04-2013 06:03 AM

What a charming idea! Thanks

grandmaof3 11-04-2013 06:14 AM

Love this and the idea of one for every month. Did you use a pattern or make your own?
