That is going to be a gorgeous quilt. I'm sure you'll be a hit with your DD for making this for her.

I have the blocks all stitched together now, so am ready to start on the inner and outer border. As stated previously, I'm going to use the green fabric for a thin inner border and the light background fabric for a larger outer border and backing. The green will then be used for the binding as well.

I need opinions on the borders. I had initially planned to do a 2" inner green border and a 4" outer border. But when I layed materials next to the blocks to get a visual on it, the inner border of 2" looks too big to me (see pic below). So I tried it with a 1" inner border a 5" outer border and it looks better to me. The binding on either one would be about 1/2". What do y'all think? Which one do you like better, the 2" / 4" combination or the 1" / 5" combination?

I agree with you Eddie, I like the 1"/5" best. I love the border material you chose.

Thanks again for the kind words! :)

And I have finished the quilt top! Yea! :D I decided to split the difference between using a 1" inner border or a 2" one and went with a 1.5" instead. I think it looks just about right. I decided to extend the inner border through the outer border to the quilt edge to continue the trellis theme of the quilt. Also, I used the scraps to create small pinwheel blocks for the corners. Next, on to quilting it!
