Grandson's Quilt Finished

This pattern is called Kite Flight and with the bright colors I knew my 4 year old grandson would love it. I ordered the kit from Craftsy.com. Do have to say this project didn't start out too well and had many bumps in the road with it. I cut the fabric wrong the the first time so had to order more. Then right in the middle of it my Janome died on me. Got my new machine (Yay!) but not having quilted with it before I did have a few problems which a seam ripper took care of but doing that is no fun at all! I broke 4 needles and then after I got the binding attached and started doing the hand sewing I realized I'd attached it to the wrong side of the quilt first. UGHHHH!! I refused to rip out anymore stitches so went with it and finished it this morning. My grandson will be here this weekend so will give it to him then and I'm certain he won't mind that everything is not perfect. I tell him when I make a quilt for him that when he wraps up in it it's like Mawmaw is giving him a big hug. :)

Very bright and "manly" for a 4-year old. It will grown well with him.

Homespun 03-05-2014 10:10 AM

It will all be OK when he sees it! It's very nice.

Very nice colors and pattern. I love the manly feel to it. Your grandson will love it for years and years.

That exactly what I feel like when I wrap up in the quilt my grandmother made for me 30 years ago! Your quilt is wonderful.

Monika 03-05-2014 03:31 PM

I think you did great on this little quilt for your grandson. He will love the bright colors to play on.

GrammaNan 03-05-2014 06:44 PM

It would have been so easy to give up but you didn't. Congratulations. The quilt is so bright and cheery, perfect for a little boy.

You were really harsh on yourself...any time you try a new pattern, with new techinques it's a stretch to learn how to do it correctly...and then to have a machine failure at the same time! What's great is you keep going, and found ways to compensate for the what didn't work, and my gosh, you finished it! It's really colorful and fun! and should be loved! Know your arms aren't long enough, but if they were, you should give yourself a pat on the back. Great work!!!!

The colors just dance across the quilt. Love that you choose to not add borders. It is fabulous.

Well said. In years to come you'll be able to laugh at the memory of the problems. It's beautiful. Can you show us a picture of him with it? All the best. Joyce in DE

I liked this so much that I looked up the pattern and found I could print it out for free. I am saving a picture of the one you made, though because I like your color choice much better than what the pattern suggested.

Here's the link to buy the kit. The only thing you have to buy separate is the backing....I think. It tells you what's included in the kit and I ordered the backing from them also so the red would match on the front and back. http://www.craftsy.com/supplies/kite...ixef&_ctp=3213

You DGS will love Mawmaw's quilt, and wrap himself up in when he needs a hug from you.

Camden loved his quilt! He spent the night last night and when we got ready to go to bed he snuggled up with it and was sound asleep in no time. :)
