It's looking fantastic. Love the hearts!!!
|
Oh Pam....it is really looking great with the hearts done! Its well...kinda scrap happy looking! I'm getting excited for you for each next step. I can't wait to see the borders going on either!
|
Beautiful quilt. I read that the pattern is in the May 2010 american quilter magazine, but I'm not sure the name of the pattern. Is it Never Ending? LMK Thanks and keep sending us the beautiful inspirations.
|
It's called Magic Flowers in the magazine and it's done in bright colors. It's very pretty in the magazine, just not really my type of colors.
I picked up a couple of yards of green for the border. Can hardly wait. I'm already browsing designs to use the rest of the CW 9x11 pieces in. I should have more than 100 of them left. :) |
Thanks for the info. Again, just beautiful.
|
Very nice! Good idea about taking a picture and looking at it for colors.
|
That is a fantastic quilt, Miss Pittsburgh!
good show <wave> |
All I can say is Wow! You must have nerves of steel to stick with all those small blocks. Can't wait to see it finished.
|
I keep asking myself why did I do this!?!? :P The squares and HSTs are 1 3/4" unfinished size, 1 1/4" finished.
I really need to make myself get going and get it done. |
wow Pam very on points awsome work
|
Ob but when it's done,Pam, you'll be so proud. And you'll remember to never commit to HSTs that small again!
|
Oh Pam...you'll get through it and the small blocks look amazing...you'll be happy when its finished. I love the look of the smaller blocks :D

Another 12 blocks are done and ready to sew the two rows together. I am tired!! I also realized that I need 35 hearts, not 25. Now I have to cut 10 more and then re-do all of the placement that I already figured out and put into order by row.
Seeing this in a picture I want to change a couple of the blocks around too. |
Well gosh Pam, I bet you ARE tired! Thats alotta putting together. I do see a few blocks that I would move if it were mine...but I think it is turning out beautifully! I love it as you are putting the hearts on...how did you miscount the hearts..or did you change something?
|
What a beautiful quilt, your work in wonderful. Hope you enter this in a show, 'tis a prize winner.
|
I guess I was looking at the picture in the magazine when I counted up the rows for hearts. It's 5x7 blocks in the pattern but I did 6x8 blocks. I wanted it larger than twin size and when I layed it on my queen bed last night I see that the body as it is now (6 blocks across) exactly fits the top of the bed so the border is going to sit just right on the sides.
I also turned the hearts on the border facing outwards instead of inwards like in the first design because I realized that they would be upside down when laying on a bed. I am definately going to send a picture to American Quilter when it's done. They have a section on their website for quilts made from magazine patterns. |
OK, your quilt is so lovely that I had to go to the American Quilter site and download this pattern. Mine has flowers instead of hearts....
|
I absolutely love it!!!

After I saw the few scattered flowers one I wonderd if putting a heart in every space was too much. I played around and it looks better to me with all of the spaces having hearts. |
I think I like the idea of the hearts better than the flowers....I think a heart in each "white" space will look nice. However, if you put flowers into each white space, I think it would be overwhelming. So is your border going to have hearts with vines or the flowers??
|
Mine has the vines and the hearts like in my avatar picture. I did turn the hearts around in the design so that they won't be upside down when the border hangs on the side of a bed.
|
I sure can see how it happened..I've miscounted things before too. That will be just perfect if the border hits on exactly the "drop" spot on the bed! I try to design mine to do that, it works out very well.
Now I have to go to the web site to download the pattern! I didn't know you could do that! |
Oh yeah, there are lots of patterns there. I started downloading all of them... just because, ya know. ;)
|
Ok - so now in addition to knowing you don't ever have to do such small HSTs again, you're going to qn become expert RRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR . Ooooops, I forgot --- you're a quilter, so you're already an expert ripper ~ ~ ~

Quilters are Jill of all trades. :)
|
Love your colors; this is a great pattern and white sets it all off very nicely! Thanks for showing us.

This is all that is left to assemble for the body of the quilt!!! Just 12 more blocks to sew together but then, 25 more hearts to applique.
I really want to get this part done this week. |
Oh now...that looks like a teeny tiny pile!!! (comparatively speaking of course- ) You'll get it done..
|
I only have enough ivory ready to complete 6 of the blocks. I figured up all of the pieces I need for the other 6 and the sashing and need to cut another 25" off the bolt of ivory and get it washed.
I already cut the long piece off the bolt for the borders and it's been washed... just waiting for me to ever get to the point of USING it!! |
*anxiously waiting!!*
|
Hey, me too! :-P Those quilt fairies are just not cooperating and every morning when I get up... it's STILL not done!!
Can you believe (I'm sure you can) that I am short just 24 little 1 3/4" x 4 1/4" pieces to be able to complete the LAST 6 BLOCKS!! I still need to put that last piece of ivory into the wash. The other 6 blocks are almost done, they're sewn into the 3 rows of the 9-patches. The HSTs are sewn together for the last 6 blocks and just waiting for those little rectangles to be sewn to them. |
Oh yes, I can easily believe that because that type of thing happens to me all the time! Oh well...buckel under and just get that part done, then you can move onto those cute hearts!
|
I can be such a ditz! When I cut fabric off the bolt for the borders I also cut what I thought would be enough to finish the body. When I came up a short I thought that I just hadn't washed enough so, I cut some more off the bolt.
I was pressing the latest 6 blocks (WHICH ARE DONE!) and I happened to glance at the stuff under one of my tables where my scraps are and lo and behold, there is a piece of the ivory I need! I then remembered that I had cut that last piece in half to iron and starch since there is no reason to work with too large of pieces. There IS enough to finish the body and the last 6 blocks! I am so disgruntled! If I had known that I had that piece then all of the blocks would be done right now because I would have done all 12 at once instead of just six of them! Hopefully, all the blocks will be done this morning. Soon as I have some coffee. |
Oh Boy! Am I ever glad to hear other people do things like this .... LOL!
Have fun making your blocks pam. Show us pics when you are finished ok? |
I look through the opposite end of the binoculars and you will be pleased with how much easier it is to plan your quilt out !!!!
|
There's still a lot of work to do on this one. 25 more hearts to turn under the seam allowance, mark the placement and glue onto the blocks, sew them on, then get the rows sewn together. That last row of hearts is going to be a bear, wrestling with the entire quilt to do the applique by machine.
Then the borders. I think I might start on my son's quilt and take a little break from this. The fabric for the vines needs to be washed, starched, cut, and made into bias tape before it can even start to be put onto the borders. Oh... and get the border fabric starched and pressed and cut and measured. One bite at a time, I guess. |
Awesome pattern, what is the name of it! Going to be very beautiful!
|
It's called Magic Flowers (because of the shape it makes between the blocks, I suppose). It's in the May issue of American Quilter and also online if you subscribe to it.
|
Hey Pam...I am chuckling because I do stuff like that all the time...I hate it when I do it too....so..I'm really laughing with you. I'll hand you the rubber hammer to hit yourself with although it doesn't do any good...
UGH...wrestling the whole thing through to applique the hearts...yes, that would be quite the job. Take it like eating an elephant...one bite at a time! |

All 48 blocks are done!!! Just need to make sure of my placement (I see that two right in the center are too close in HST colors), and sew the blocks together. I have the pieces for the sashing ready to cut too.
