Oh...that is looking soooo yummy!!!
|
Oh wow is that ever beautiful :-D
|
I do think it is pretty. If I hadn't done those two rows with 5 hearts I would consider doing 3 in one row, two in the next, then three, etc., leaving a blank space between each one. I don't know if it is looking too busy or not after looking at it for months.
The blocks are all sewn into strips and I have two long sashing strips done and ready to sew together 2 sets of two blocks (like the top rows). Then I start working on the hearts. Don't know if I am done for tonight or not, it's almost 8:30pm and need to eat dinner. |

How it is planned now is with a heart in every space. If I do less hearts I'd have to take off 4 that have already been done and they're been glued, heat set, and stitched with a TINY zig-zag. If I try to take them off it might not look very good.
If I'm going to do it, now is the time since I'm about ready to complete all the hearts. |
I vote to go with all the blocks. It's hard to get all those little tiny stitches out & you'd be upset if you ripped it, or I know I would. Good luck & can't wait to see it finished.
|
I guess it depends on the look your going for.
The one with less hearts you see more of the squares. The one with more hearts it's the hearts that stand out. I love them both! |
Hmmm....now your in a tough position. I see what you are saying...I like both..but I think the one with less hearts is a little calmer. But..saying that, I'm not at all sure I would attempt to remove the ones you've already put on unless you are prepared to have to replace the entire group of squares if it doesn't look nice, is torn or something. I think on this one I'd leave them. You know how fabric looks when you take something off..most times..not pretty enough to leave.
|
I'm going to try taking one of them off. I have a brand new seam ripper and I've been dying to use it.
If I cut the stitches from the front of the heart I won't accidentally damage the block. I'll need to try and gently wash out the glue too. If it doesn't look good, I'll put it back and can make a new heart if I need to. |
Well, how did that new seam ripper work out? Hope you can get them off without too much trouble....the quilt is looking awesome so far! :D
|
Very pretty.
|
I adore this masterpiece Pam.. it's a stunner.. I agree with Sandpat about liking the intermittent hearts the best but wondering about the effect of removing the ones already in place. Either way it's an amazing quilt.. I also want to let you know that I saw your quilt at the Knoxville show and went back for a second day and got some pictures of it for you. Do you want me to just post them here? or to send them to you? Your choice. If you want them e-mailed let me know by pm with your addy..

I don't know if I can do it, take them off. I got ready to and looking at those TINY stitches in monofilament that I can barely see and then not knowing what the glue will do.
I found myself picking up and thumbing through a magazine, then I emptied my scrap box. Then thinking that seeing it in person there is a lot more white around the hearts than in the EQ7 picture. Here is what it is right now, only the first and third rows are done which shows the size of the finished hearts. I guess I just don't want to do it. |
I think I would leave it just as it is and mark it up to...a design decision you can use on "another" quilt. You could very well just create alot more work for yourself and then end up not happy with the result. In looking at the "real thing" and focusing on rows 1 & 3...I think there is enough white around the hearts. Who would ever even think about the other option anyway since it won't be hanging next to it like you showed the EQ pics... I say...."ONWARD"
|
Thanks. :) There's always the next one and it's true that you learn something with every quilt.
I liked it in the beginning and I still like it. I have another row of hearts glued on and ready to sew. |
I don't blame you for not wanting to take off the hearts.
I would leave it. It's beautiful the way it is. |
Pam, I know you think you are taking a long time to do this one, but you really are moving quickly! You'll have all the hearts done before you know it! :D
|
If I do one row of hearts per evening it will be done this week, have 5 rows to do. I haven't worked on anything but this since April, well... did the IRR rounds.
I'm kind of proud of myself for not moving onto something else when it felt like this wasn't getting anywhere. It seems that in the last year that I have very much improved in that area. |
Stay with the everyone and the next one can be every other one lol :-D
|
Congrats on the "hanging with it"...I plan to do that more this year. I've got the Jane that I'm working on and once I finish up the IRR tops for others...I am going to finish some quilts this year and actually quilt them!!! Well...thats the plan anyway.
|
I decided not to do the Jane after 4 or 6 blocks. I found that I really didn't have a personal interest in doing it, was just doing it with the group. I used the fabric in this quilt that I got for the Jane. :)
I counted the stack of finished tops that need to be quilted yesterday... there are 9 of them (and another hanging in the closet that the applique needs to be finished on) and there is one on the LA frame right now that is being worked on sporadically. After I get my son's quilt done next, maybe I should concentrate on getting them quilted and get caught up for the New Year. |

I was pressing the latest 6 blocks (WHICH ARE DONE!) and I happened to glance at the stuff under one of my tables where my scraps are and lo and behold, there is a piece of the ivory I need! I then remembered that I had cut that last piece in half to iron and starch since there is no reason to work with too large of pieces. There IS enough to finish the body and the last 6 blocks! I am so disgruntled! If I had known that I had that piece then all of the blocks would be done right now because I would have done all 12 at once instead of just six of them! Hopefully, all the blocks will be done this morning. Soon as I have some coffee. |
Well, I got addicted to the Jane blocks early on. I'm really enjoying the challenge and I love working on the smaller blocks. Thats just me though. I get bored easily so I think thats why it appeals to me and also why I enjoy the IRRs so much. Its always something different.
You do sound like you have a few things floating around.... |

You do sound like you have a few things floating around.... It's a really rare breed that doesn't have a couple of things floating around (I've heard rumors that some people have dozens, maybe even hundreds!!). |
I know...I don't think I'm in the "hundreds" yet...but I do have a pretty large number! So many that DH keeps saying...I see all this stuff going into that room...NO finished quilts coming out!!
|
Just checking I have loved watching the progress of your quilt.
|
Thanks for checking. ;) I haven't worked on it other than getting another row of hearts glued on and ready to sew.
Don't know what's wrong with me. I have no energy. I go home from work and do nothing at all. Last weekend my granddaughter stayed with me so I didn't get any sewing time in. I WILL try and get the body of it done this weekend. |
Beautiful!
|
I was wondering about you Pam. I think its the dog days of summer...sapping energy out of us all.
