A couple years ago I made a little crib quilt for a baby at church. His Mom didn't want anything not all boy, so I designed a patchwork with applique of construction vehicles for the quilt and matching bumper pads.

This week the family is out of state on vacation, and they sent a pic of the little boy, with the quilt he won't sleep without.

I was really pleased to see it is holding up, and that it is so loved. It makes all the hard work worth it, to see that smiling face.

What a perfect quilt for a little guy! My boys would have been crazy about that when they were little. Your own design?

grammatjr 07-16-2009 11:38 AM

Basically, my own design I had seen a quilt with the basic patchwork layout for the blocks, so I just drew them up to the size I wanted, according to the scraps I had in my stash, then drew up all the vehicles. The bumper had other vehicles on it, in different colors, and some patchwork 4 square on point. The quilting was free motion, in tool shapes, hammer, nails, wrench, screw, etc. Can't remember what all. It was so fun to do.

Very cute! Did you machine applique or hand? I think i'd worry about hand apps holding up to a baby!

katier825 07-16-2009 02:23 PM

Marcia 07-17-2009 05:12 AM

How sweet--that little boy is adorable!! And you must feel wonderful that he loves your handiwork so much.

What a cute quilt--you should publish the pattern--there are not nearly enough things out there for boys.

Debbie1 07-17-2009 05:39 AM

Doesn't it make you feel so good to know one of your quilts is so well loved? The quilt is so cute!

Joan 07-17-2009 05:58 AM

You know that is always "my" goal when I make a baby quilt--
That it will be loved and loved and loved as the
baby grows up

You did it right and it's clear to see that it is THE favorite.
(good job, too, BTW)

sharon b 07-17-2009 06:20 AM

Love the quilt ! And doesn't it make all the hard work worth it when you see the quilt used and loved like that ? I would rather my baby quilts bhe used and loved rather than put away to be saved :?

It is hard to find designs just for boys....this one is a beaut! One lucky little boy. I am sure he will treasure it always.

Jim's Gem 07-18-2009 04:17 PM

Cute quilt! and cute little boy!!!

Shemjo 07-18-2009 04:19 PM

That is one beautiful boy with his bankie! How sweet is that!

pal 07-18-2009 08:40 PM

Great quilt. I hope that somewhere there is someone who loves
something that I have made for them as much as "your" little boy
loves what you have made!!!!

That smile says it all.

SharonC 07-23-2009 06:47 AM

That's the way a quilt should look! Loved and used. Definitely found a good home with this little guy. Looks like he loves "his" one of a kind quilt.

weezie 07-23-2009 08:27 AM

I know that just made your day, getting the photo of the cutie pie with his quilt and the knowledge that the quilt is so very treasured. It may be true that giving is better than receiving, but it's always thrilling to know that the gift you gave was perfect.

JCL in FL 07-23-2009 03:34 PM

Great quilt! Makes you feel good when your gift is so loved doesn't it?

pennyswings 08-26-2009 10:46 AM

Well you can be proud and happy all at the same time. He obviously loves the quilt and it still looks great. Bet that picture put a smile on your face to know it is loved and appreciated.
