I've had this one for years - and absolutely love it. I've never run across another one. It is great for some "ripping" jobs.

Sierra 11-06-2011 06:15 AM

How big is it? Needs a ruler or a hand to give a size.

Treasureit 11-06-2011 06:17 AM

I have one of those - it is from the 1970s I think. I don't use it much, but as I recall it was very sharp.

sandyo 11-06-2011 06:18 AM

I just got a seam ripper with a stand. good timing because I used it a lot this weekend

mymsmess 11-06-2011 06:18 AM

Would love to find one like that. Seems like it would be HEAVY DUTY. I have had 2 break on me in the past month.

RenaB 11-06-2011 06:31 AM

Never seen that kind before! Looks like it can get the job done!!

Maggie_Sue 11-06-2011 06:37 AM

New to me, looks like it would work great!

mighty 11-06-2011 06:37 AM

Never have seen one like that. I would love to know where you can get one.

normasews 11-06-2011 06:56 AM

Yes I have one also. Found it in a sewing basket I bought at a flea market.

mzzzquilts 11-06-2011 07:42 AM

That looks like a letter opener I've seen in office supply stores!

luvstoquilt 11-06-2011 08:37 AM

I have one of those and I love it, too. I have had it so long I have no idea where I got it!

spartan quilter 11-06-2011 08:52 AM

I have one that was in my Mom's sewing stuff and just love it. I would love to have one by each machine, so if anyone ever finds where they can be bought, I sure hope that they post the info.

I have one of those but they were a give away from a store to cut coupons out of newspapers, etc. They were given away back in the 70s--surprised I still have it as I lose everything!

Sunnie 11-06-2011 09:33 AM

I got one of these several years ago - BET-A-SEAM RIPPER and I just love it. Sharp like a razor blade, but you can use the ip to pick individual stitches. Actually think I may have worn in out...lol.

I remember having one like that myself! It is a great tool, but sadly I don't have mine anymore. My favorite one now is the ergonomic one by clover.

It seems to me that it was from the Current card company for cutting out pages from a magazine.

vickimc 11-06-2011 05:14 PM

yes, I had one long time ago, too. havent see one in years. I also had something like this for cutting paper, like clipping stuff from the news paper. Maybe an office store would have it in that area???

GrammaPatches 11-06-2011 05:38 PM

I bought some of those back in the 70s but they weren't billed as seam rippers but as coupon clippers. They were very sharp but got dull with all the coupons I clipped. I haven't seem them for sale since then.

audsgirl 11-06-2011 10:35 PM

It looks familiar. I think I had one back in the 60s or 70s. I don't have it anymore.

montanajan 11-06-2011 11:48 PM

I have a couple of those - they were advertised for cutting coupons from newspapers or magazines. They do work well as seam rippers.

heather1949 11-07-2011 02:57 AM

It looks as though it would do the job at hand...never seen one b4.

wuv2quilt 11-07-2011 03:18 AM

Well Ding-Dang-It....I've never seen a SR like that...but now that I have, I want one

katei 11-07-2011 03:27 AM

No - not seen that one. Is it as good a friend as mine is?

kriscraft99 11-07-2011 03:44 AM

It does an amazing job when ripping the seams out of jeans legs or upholstry - because it actually cuts the threads (with it's razor like edge) that pop the threads like other rippers do. You do have to be careful because it will slice your fabric too - but for heavy duty jobs - it is the best thing ever

pscott392 11-07-2011 04:42 AM

Wouldn't mind having one like that myself.

Well, now that you've told us about it - I want one, too. Undoing the seams on jeans is not one of my favorite activities.

The one that was shown doesn't look quite as durable/strong as the one you have.

It almost looks like a box cutter of sorts.

hobbykat1955 11-07-2011 05:06 AM

Looks like the modern version of the tiny knife they sell for seam ripping now....

quiltinghere 11-07-2011 05:09 AM

I've never seen that either....

RuthFru 11-07-2011 01:54 PM

I use to have one and loved it. I'll have to look around in some of my older supplies.

bisbetica 11-07-2011 01:58 PM

wow, that looks positively lethal!

SandScraps 11-08-2011 04:16 AM

Serious ripper! Looks quite dangerous and very sharp.

lucillestcyr 11-08-2011 06:12 AM

[QUOTE=kriscraft99;4640195]I've had this one for years - and absolutely love it. I've never run across another one. It is great for some "ripping" jobs. The ladies in my quilt group also have them... super job!]

SherryW 11-08-2011 06:14 AM

No, I have never seen a ripper like that. Unusual.

lucillestcyr 11-08-2011 06:14 AM

My thread didn't show all the way. I have 2 of these seam rippers and were recently purchased from WalMart in the office supply department. They are heavy duty, work very well, and are no bigger than your usual seam ripper, about 5 to 6 inches long...

Mary Lou 11-08-2011 06:59 AM

I had two and lost one at a quiling class. I just loved them but have never been able to find where to purchase. Hope you put on the board if you find out.

ahhhh dang :( I was just at WM I'll put it on my 'to look for' list next time I'm there

kriscraft99 11-08-2011 11:20 AM

yes, it is very sharp & dangerous - but so easy to slice through heavy duty upholstry thread
