hahaha, I feel so foolish, here is the story and some pics lol.

I should know better, anyway, I lit a nice peach candle a friend gave me for Christmas in the studio where the children live (the doggies). And needing to blame someone, hubby is one who told me to do it ahahhaahha

Anyway I started to work on my quilts. I did have a large space to work on and didn't think the candle posed a problem, even tho my mind said to blow it out.

I remember flinging the quilt top to start working on one side, when I thought I saw a flash of light. I was going to ingnore it but decided to look and there was my quilt on fire....

I quickly beat it out, thank God it had just caught and it wasn't bad.

it burned half the diamond and three sections of the strips

here I cut the bad parts out

all fixed you can't even tell, it is patchwork after all lol

I haven't, but my DIL had a candle fall from a windowsill and burn a large hole in a Christmas Log Cabin quilt I had made for her several years ago. I am very happy your are able to patch yours.

natalieg 01-10-2011 05:22 PM

You did a good job on the repairs!

leatheflea 01-10-2011 05:22 PM

Yikes! you did a great repair job. When I read the topic I thought Oh my someone has gotten mad and thrown a WIP in the fireplace, I know I've wanted to a couple of times.

Vicki W 01-10-2011 05:24 PM

Timely reminder for us all....your fix looks great though and glad you acted quickly...could have been a lot worse.

craftybear 01-10-2011 05:33 PM

be careful with the candles in your sewing room

cathyvv 01-10-2011 05:35 PM

Well, I don't think I want to learn the 'fire quilt' technique...

Glad you are safe. I wonder - did your smoke detector go off?

fryguymoore 01-10-2011 05:36 PM

You need to get Scentsy. It is just warm wax with NO FIRE.

I am glad everything turned out okay.

sally's girl 01-10-2011 05:37 PM

Thank goodness everything is back to normal.....love the quilt.. I collect snowmen

Rosyhf 01-10-2011 05:42 PM

hahaha, I didn't really feel too bad about it once I saw the damage wasn't big, oh lord it was scary at the time. This is the quilt I have been working on since before Christmas, ever since I saw the amish log cabin star. Here is the link.

I don't don't really have candles in my studio, this is the first time and I did order that candle warmer from Amazon. It a lamp that sits over the candle and just warms it and you never have to light it.

Jodi, I bought that fabric in Joann's a couple years ago. I don't know if you can still get it as it was a seasonal deal. The selvage says...V. I. P. by Cranston print works 2004/. It doesn't have a number like the LQS fabic does.

Conniequilts 01-10-2011 05:53 PM

Oh my - it's funny since everyone is ok :) And if it helps you feel better at all, the hubby flipped a table cloth over a lit candle and if it wasn't for my "gut feeling" things would have gotten ugly.

katsewnsew 01-10-2011 05:55 PM

Scary!!! Good thing you were still in the room and noticed it. And you did a wonderful job repairing it.

bdship 01-10-2011 05:56 PM

Whew, good job on reacting quickly. Would like to see it when finished, and I like the black fabric too.

purple_butterfly 01-10-2011 06:00 PM

OH my! :? Good job you caught it before it all went up and great repair.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-10-2011 06:03 PM

I think you should know by now not to listen to your hubby hahahahahahahah :D:D

quiltbugs 01-10-2011 06:06 PM

That's a GREAT repair job!

trueimage 01-10-2011 06:09 PM

Great save!!!!! I'll have to remember not to sew around candles.

sew_southern 01-10-2011 06:14 PM

Great repair job! Glad it wasn't worse.

MrsM 01-10-2011 06:21 PM

I'm sorry but I did chuckle. This is so me.

wolph33 01-10-2011 06:23 PM

never did yet, awesome looking quilt hope you can fix it

justwannaquilt 01-10-2011 06:29 PM

I do all my sewing and quilting on my kitchen table. I ALWAYS have a candle lit on my stove. It sits on the very back of the stove top between the two back burners. Being that I have three young kids there is no way I would have one low enough to have a quilt get near. Maybe those kids are good for something other than just getting into everything, they keep my quilts from burning!

Rachelcb80 01-10-2011 06:33 PM

Wow, nice save! I can't say I've set a quilt on fire but I have very young children still so candles aren't something I have out anyways. I bet you'll be more careful now though! :)

SharonAnne 01-10-2011 06:39 PM

What could have happened makes me shudder. Thank goodness you have quick reflexes or you might have burnt much more than a section of quilt. OK, I have moved all my candles to the outdoor patio now. I try to be a quick learner.

kajaza 01-10-2011 06:54 PM

Wouldnt even know that it had a booboo! Great job!

Sweetness 01-10-2011 07:33 PM

So that's what really happened to "Frosty"...lol.

Glad you're okay. I knew there was a reason I don't have candles in my room. I use those scented crystals and even they're on a shelf way way up top :)

4girlsmimi 01-10-2011 07:59 PM

So glad you caught it early. When I first saw this post, I thought you had started a quilt and hated it so badly, you threw it in the fire. I've thought about that a time or two
myself.
So glad all worked out good and you done a beautiful job saving your quilt.
