I like the look of it!
Definitely look up Sashiko, see if that helps you out.
Good job!

I think it is beautiful. My husbands grandmother always used the big stitches. Her's were nice but not even like yours. I think she called it a utility stitch.

I am a hand quilter but never have even tried to do really tiny stitches, even but not tiny, simply because I like to see the stitches. Love your pillow.

brenda21 08-28-2010 07:29 PM

I really like it :)

jemma 08-28-2010 08:13 PM

i like the look very much but the eveness of the stitching is the icing on the cake

tooMuchFabric 08-28-2010 08:14 PM

My handquilting sorta comes out as big stitch, though not on purpose!
I get about 5 or 6 stitches to the inch, I am Not a fine stitcher.

But I really like the look of the actual Big Stitch quilting you show here, it's very distinctive and adds a lot of character.
I have some homespuns that this would go nice with, hmmm...
All the time new ideas.
How old can I live to be, eh??

I love it!!! It's so cool...will have to try it one day!

I've been trying to talk myself into trying the "big Stitch" buy I just can't seem to make myself do it yet. I went and bought the needles and pearl cotton thread to do it. I've got a quilt ready to go. I've already makred the pattern on the quilt. I just can't seem to make myself get started on it. Hopefully in the next few days I can get it done. Here's hoping I at least get started on it.

Barbara, Your stitches are so nice and even. I just love your pillow. So-o, I thought I would try your "Big Stitch" on a quilt.
I used pearl cotton size 8 for the stippling on my DP9 quilt.
My stitches aren't as pretty as yours but overall I am pleased at how it turned out. Here is my quilt inspector, "Muffer", I think he approves too!
I added a piped trim before I put the binding on. It took me one month and one day to hand quilt it.

This really nice, really like the quilting in black - it pops.

So beautiful! It's like Sashtiko (sp). I have been doing some blocks to add to a quilt I am doing for son and daughter-in-law. It's nice to have something I can take with me to swim meets to work on when my granddaughter is waiting for her next heat.

I love, love it!!

I really like the look of the big stitch quilting. This would be a big help to older folks like me who can't sit for hours and hours but love to hand quilt. It would make it go so much faster.

Auntobby that is beautiful!! Your black stitches work perfectly and I love the piped trim you included too. Muffer looks very cute. Does he try to sit on your quilt while your quilting? My Buttons does and gets very put out if the piece I'm quilting is too small for him to share.

I love the look of the big stitch. It really looks super on your cushion.

quilterguy27 07-13-2011 03:25 PM

I have a quilt I want to try this on, but for some reason I can't seem to get started on it. I've got the needles, the pearle cotton, quilt and the quilting pattern. What do I need to do to make my self get started.

MelodyWB 07-13-2011 03:28 PM

Love it..I've wanted to try it ever since I got a folk art..woodsy quilt.. a couple of years ago and they had done it !!
