I am doing a log cabin quilt, and I wanted to design it into the diamonds/stars look. Well I had no idea that there were different variations to this block. So now when I place them in the pattern for it, my two points at the top, bottom nor sides are equal height. So now what I can I do? People are going to think I was drinking while making this. Ha ha ha..I may need one now though.. ha ha ha To think..I was enjoying making this one and WAS having so much fun. I should have known it was to good to be true. ha ha ha

Put it together & don't tell anybody.

I agree!

I've started telling myself "that the next one will be better" - just as a way to stop myself from dwelling on small imperfections.

and yes you may call me a "wanna be" perfectionist!

dgsmom 02-13-2011 03:17 PM

i think it still looks good like that. it is different from all the others~~one of a kind~~

olmphoto2 02-13-2011 03:27 PM

I like it alot!

Halo 02-13-2011 03:29 PM

It looks great as is. No one will know you didn't plan it that way unless you tell them. Keep going & finish it & I'll bet you will be pleased with it when it is completed.

Raggiemom 02-13-2011 03:30 PM

It simply makes it unique. I think it's pretty.

Jingle 02-13-2011 03:31 PM

I think it will be beautiful. I'm a perfectionist too, quilts just won't act right, I still keep trying.

Scrap Happy 02-13-2011 03:33 PM

I think it is pretty the way it is.

Completely agree! Your colors are beautiful. Have you tried rearranging it into a different pattern? You might like it better.
But even if you don't, who's to know you didn't intend for it to be that way? It'll still be a beautiful quilt!

I vote YES on this!! LOLOLOL

moonwork42029 02-13-2011 03:39 PM

I thought it was suppose to look like that... took me quite a while to figure out what you were talking about.

Cherylsea 02-13-2011 03:40 PM

You made a design decision to make yours this way - if anyone is rude enough to ask. The colors are great and I'll bet it looks wonderful when it is finished. I can never make a pattern to the pattern, then mine would look just like every other one...like anyone is ever going to line them up somewhere!!

Rose_P 02-13-2011 03:57 PM

It looks intentional. I would never have guessed it wasn't supposed to be just as it is. Colors and design are very attractive. If you still don't like it - provided the fabric is still available - you could make a second set of blocks the other direction, make two quilts and sell one - it will pay for the cost of both!

quiltlonger 02-13-2011 04:09 PM

There is a hundred ways to put together the log cabin block --now there's 101 ways !!

barnbum 02-13-2011 04:11 PM

It looks like it's supposed to go that way--isn't it??? I'd either try rearranging for a different design, or sew it together as is. Either way it's perfect.

Lindsey 02-13-2011 04:12 PM

It looks fine. Its like a star. Testalations.

KarenR 02-13-2011 04:13 PM

Okay-
Went back and looked- First I love it.

Have you thought about making 2 rows with complete blocks amd then making one more section to finish the bottom log cabins?
Just a thought

Tamara 02-13-2011 04:17 PM

Looks great

mythreesuns 02-13-2011 04:26 PM

Karen R..I am sorry..but I guess I am not sure what you are meaning. This is only 28 blocks out of 100 that is needed. I do love the looks, and the colors..but I saw another posters on here and I got to looking..and was like..well darn..mine does not match like that. So I did a search online..and waaa laaa..ha ha ha..because mine is different.. DH..told me exactly what I always tell him..finish and keep your mouth shut..and I bet your the only one that will ever know.

(whats the old saying..what goes around..comes around) ha ha ha

amen.

NCquilter 02-13-2011 05:24 PM

I think it looks great! If someone doesn't like it, or says something disrespectful about it - Then tell them, let me see you do it then! lol

Liz aka Helen 02-13-2011 05:30 PM

What's wrong with it? I don't get it. Looks great to me, but then I haven't done a log cabin yet. And as far as I know - like everyone has said before me - IF YOU DON'T TELL THEY WON'T KNOW ;).

Dani 02-13-2011 05:52 PM

Will turning the blocks around make any difference? Doesn't matter, it still looks great! Quite unique...which is good!

I had a cooking teacher in high school who told us we never made mistakes - we invented new dishes. I like to use that philosophy in my quilting too!!

kathdavis 02-13-2011 08:23 PM

Have a drink and don't worry about it.

sushi 02-13-2011 09:01 PM

It's a contemporary variation of a traditional quilt pattern! Which is my way of saying that I agree with what everyone else has said: It's a beautiful quilt in its own right.

You're understandably disappointed because it didn't turn out as you had anticipated. But I'll bet that if you were to put it away for a week and then look at it again with fresher eyes, you'd be pleased and proud!

A dear friend taught me the basics of quilting. While learning to use a rotary cutter and sew a scant 1/4" seam were important, the best thing I learned from her was that our quilts are always better than we think they are. She encouraged me always to set aside a troubled quilt and re-examine it a few days/weeks/months later. It's amazing how much better it looks once I have some distance!!

Toto's Mom 02-13-2011 09:06 PM

Looks just FINE to me, the way it is. Tell anyone that asks that this is YOUR "spin" on the design!

SnowQuilt 02-13-2011 10:20 PM

It's beautiful the way it is. It took me a little while to figure out what you were talking about. I would go ahead and put it together. Great job.

karenpatrick 02-14-2011 03:38 AM

I'd finish it and pretend it's supposed to be that way. Whose to know the difference. I love the colors. It's a great quilt. You had fun, that's what counts.

Although I get what you mean I have to agree with the other members, it's beautiful just the way it is, I understand it's not how you saw it in your minds eye.
I have learned that you should never look at your quilt up close. I had always hated my sampler quilt until I saw a photo of it. The look of the whole quilt is much better than just parts of it.

Put it together another way or put sashing between the blocks.

emerald46 02-14-2011 05:09 AM

It looks just great!!

Homespun 02-14-2011 05:12 AM

So you've made up a new design--wonderful!

janiesews 02-14-2011 05:31 AM

It is pretty and look--a new design. Go with it. :-D

quilter on the eastern edge 02-14-2011 05:41 AM

You have created a "variation" of the traditional log cabin. Now all you need is a catchy name for it. Log Cabin Branching Out?

Stitchnripper 02-14-2011 05:44 AM

I still can't figure out what is "wrong" with it. I like it the way it is, but the final decision is yours.

Bernie942 02-14-2011 05:47 AM

I like it the way it is. The color combinations are great and I would have thought you designed it that way.

gal288 02-14-2011 05:51 AM

Only you will know, finnish it,, it's beautiful.

If youtry to be a perfectionist in quilting you will go nuts. Besides, it's handmade, annd you're only human, right.

I believe handmade things should look handmade not mmass produced.
