When you make them, use your walking foot to sew the multiple layers together and start at the thickest end. I just finished the body of a baby quilt and I'm getting pretty good at making them! Look in the tutorial section of this site for instructions. They are easy. After you sew your seams, iron them out flat rather than to the side to get rid of some of the bulk. Here is mine without the borders:

What a delightful quilt!

I have used several 3D motifs, but not that one, It looks like great fun. I'll have to try it tight away. Thank you very much for showing it.

You appear to be very familiar with 3D pinwheel quilts....do you know about their care afterwards? Do they hold up well after washing and drying?

This is actually my first 3-D quilt...just did a lot of practicing...my first couple were "wonky" and not lined up very well. However, my technique has improved after making this quilt. I have never washed one, but since I am also curious, I just washed one of my first blocks and threw it in the dryer to see how it does. I even wrung it out! I'll take a picture when it is done!

yolanda 04-17-2011 11:37 AM

cute!

pawebdoctor 04-18-2011 09:32 AM

Uh oh... something else to try. I can understand why they are addicting... they are beautiful!!!

Here's a picture of a practice block after washing, wringing out and tossed in the dryer. Seemed to do pretty well!

Thank you for posting that as I am working on one too and used the white eyelet like you did. Sharon from Chicago inspired me with her quilt with the eyelet and I love your quilt as well as the one on this post. I love the multi-colors and borders too!
