Hi Everyone,
I am pretty darn pleased with this top so far. So, I thought I would share it here with you. It still has the borders to go and the quilting. See what you think..... Oh it is on a blue design wall and is 56 x 56.

Great job! It looks awesome!!!

RedGarnet222 09-08-2009 09:08 AM

Thanks girls! :D :D
I had to re-work the pattern dodie sent me. But, as long as I have a picture, I am able to do that. The finished blocks are seven inches. And the top and bottom arrows were added because I didn't like it stopping without them. And I eliminated four animals from the original design.
I don't have EQ so I took two copies of the pattern picture and cut one up and pasted the sections on to the second copy so I could see what it would look like changed to this way before I cut into the fabric. I also changed the block size, because the animals were too cramped at the size the pattern gave.

Hubby is thrilled! I would have never believed that he would care about a quilt. Strange ....

kluedesigns 09-08-2009 09:11 AM

WOW

that quilt sure is sharp!!

k3n 09-08-2009 09:19 AM

That's beautiful Red - I love the animals! No wonder DH is pleased with it! :D

RedGarnet222 09-08-2009 09:27 AM

 Gee thanks girls! I don't know if you remember, but I found the fabric for this in a second hand store. All but the grey was there. Well the line is long since out of print, so looking for the grey was a nightmare. I found this grey at Windy Moon Quilts, a fabric by marcus brothers. I am so glad the other fabric was unavailable. I love that print with it.

I really love that quilt top, Red! I love the colors and fabric. Doing it for your husband is a great idea -- I may have to steal that idea from you.

Justquilting 09-08-2009 11:26 AM

What a great quilt!
Love the animals!!

Jim's Gem 09-08-2009 11:49 AM

That looks great!!!

bearisgray 09-08-2009 11:52 AM

It is a great quilt!

And for all practical purposes, you (re)designed it yourself - with maybe a bit of inspiration from the original pattern. With all the changes you made, it's just about a new pattern. Nice arrangement of the animal prints and other fabrics.

mytwopals 09-08-2009 11:54 AM

Looks real good, so far. I can't wait to see it all finished. :D

Oh....And if hubby doesn't like it, let me know. I'll PM you my address and you can send it to me.

joeyoz 09-08-2009 12:11 PM

nursie76 09-08-2009 03:21 PM

Really nice! Your hubby is going to be bragging about you all over....and will be cozy and warm to boot!

Love the colors!

RedGarnet222 09-08-2009 03:27 PM

 Thanks ever so much girls. Your very sweet to say all those wonderful things about the quilt top. Hubby keeps coming up stairs to see if I have finished it ....LOL! He has no clue that it will take a while to quilt it after I buy the batting.

You girls are right though about him bragging to the guys about it. He went out to run errands this morning and has told a few of his buddies about it, even his barber. Ha ha ha ha hahaha ha ... Who Knew? Gee I think he might be a little easier on me now when I buy fabric and such. I should have thought of this sooner!

Dodie .. A big special thanks for the pattern and the fabric. Even though I didn't use the fabric. I had everything but the grey. I will have to make something else to use up the things you sent. Gift bags?? Pillows?? Who knows. Anyway you are a dear to have sent it to me. Thanks so much. :D I was really stumped as to how to set this to show off those animals. And a compliment coming from a teacher is music to my ears.

Thanks girls,
I am going to work on finishing up the top tomorrow. Then it will be a shopping trip to buy the batting.
I am looking forward to finishing it too. I bumped this one up from others I have waiting on me. :D

earthwalker 09-08-2009 07:35 PM

Really crisp and masculine design....no wonder he's so pleased! It never ceases to amaze me how talented the quilters on this forum are. Thanks for sharing.

pocoellie 09-08-2009 07:40 PM

Beautiful!! He'll love it!!

SAHM 09-08-2009 08:28 PM

This is beautiful. Makes me think of quiet hunting weekends at a cabin somewhere. I'm sure your DH is thrilled to bits. What kind of border are you thinking of adding?? How big will it be all done?

RedGarnet222 09-08-2009 08:40 PM

I have been thinking about it this afternoon. I am gong to just finish it up with a five and a half inch border with the blue as cornerstones (per hubby's request). This will make it finish at 66 and a quarter inch square. A little big for a wall hanging, but I have a space to put it. Now I am going to have to think about the quilting designs where and what I want and how it will relate to the qult as a whole.
I have a feeling this one should take me some time to finish...

Pickles 09-08-2009 09:36 PM
