Hunters Star with Freemotion Feathers for my kids dad
 

My kids told me their dad wondered when I was going to make him a quilt since I've been making them for everyone else - we've been divorced for many years, but still are friends, so I thought why not. As I worked on this quilt I had lots of memories of years gone by, some good, some not that great, but it is part of our history, and I'm glad I made it for him.
My Daughter helped with the quilt sandwich, and after it was all pinned, I searched for a simple feather design I could FMQ so I didn't have to mark anything. Not perfect, but I'm still learning.
This quilt will be a surprise - the kids will just make his bed up with someday when they are visiting, and wait for him to spot it - I look forward to hearing his reaction!

It's a beautiful quilt...and you obviously have a good heart. I'm sure it means a lot to your kids that you did this....and will mean a lot to their dad as well.

Your cat appears to be approving of your work. Your quilting is excellent being so easy to over quilt. Fabric selection and layout was terrific. I am sure he will be pleased with it.

I really like your quilt and your feathers are much better than mine and I have a long arm. Oh well, I can only get better. I find it very refreshing that you and your ex have remained friends. That makes life so much easier for the kids and will probably keep them from having all kinds of separation and anxiety issues as they grow. I wish I could pattern my daughters after you.

Hi QuiltingVagabond - I do like the machine, I'm happy I can quilt my projects without having to send them out. Since it's a sit-down, it still takes a bit of time to do a quilt since you still have to jockey the quilt around, but not as much as with a domestic. I truly look forward to quilting each of my quilts now that I have it! Most of my designs have been curvy swirls, hearts, and now feathers, but today I worked on a different quilt and used a straight edge which I hadn't tried before, and it worked too!

Thank you for posting such a beautiful quilt! I am working on a Hunters Star as well and yours is fantastic inspiration!
