I thought I'd start a thread for the new quilt I started last night. This one will be for my wife, Melissa, who picked it out. It will be the "Saratoga Star" pattern by Touchwood Quilt Design. The fabric is a hydrangea flower and raspberries theme by Holly Holderman. The blocks will have a central square on point of the hydrangea print, with stars using the leafy and solid greens, blues, and yellows. The inner border and binding will be green, and the outer border will be the striped material. I got all the block pieces cut last night so am ready to start pieceing them together.

I haven't seen him on this board, so don't think he is a member - but he is a quilter - and an engineer - he's a very entertaining speaker -
I think he kind of commandeered some of his wife's projects at the start I'm sure he has a web site if you google him |
Those are beautiful fabrics. I am looking forward to seeing your quilt completed as you are so focused!
BTW years ago I had a hydrangea fabric that I was using in a quilt top that was not 100 % cotton. Bought it at a quilt shop and was really disappointed. Have not finished that top yet! :? |
Your fabrics are gorgeous and that is going to be one really pretty quilt. Please keep us up to date with your progress. Are you going to quilt it yourself or send it out to a long arm quilter?
|
Oh My Eddie
Those fabrics are to die for - being an avid gardener doesn't help  Love the pattern too thanks for the link - what size are you planning on making? Tisha |
Oh that will be BEAUTIFUL - what a lucky lady.
My DH said that after the NASCAR race, we'll set up my quilting frame. It's so cool to have a partner who is interested in the partner's hobby. |
Eddie, I have to say you certainly have an eye for colour these fabrics really do compliment each other.
There are quite a few men who quilt out there, Have you heard of Ricky Timms, he is a singer as well I believe, well known in America. You can Googled his work? there is another guy called David on the QVT Channel whose work is just amazing, I will get hold of his last name for you, just won´t come to mind at the moment. Elle |
Beautiful choice of fabrics! Be sure to post pictures of the finished product.

My wife does all the tops and I am the quilter. I have a long arm machine and do the quilting. Be careful! It is addicting! Good luck with your project! Mumzbear's Hubby

Not to be a stickler for detail, but ... uhm ... the raspberries? I have never seen blue raspberries ... and blueberries are smooth and round ... the shape is right for blackberries, but I have never seen blue blackberries ...
But, I LOVE blue ... and, your color choices are really cool ... NOW .. since I got so hung up on what kind of berries were on that fabric ... I have to go back and see your pattern ... Will really enjoy seeing your quilt progress ... |
