Since I am on a fabric moratorium for the rest of the year, I am trying to use up a lot of the 4, 5, and 6" fabric sample squares I have accumulated. Here is a quilt using up 6" squares, and some five inch squares. At first when deciding if to put on a border I thought I would need something to calm it down, I saw the black and white check and thought,,,no, really, oh give it a try. I think it works.
Blocks are free cut in a slash, mix and sew. No particular pattern except that they radiate out from the center. The black square was an after thought but I think it gives the quilt definition.

Cute idea for a quilt. Like the red border.

You can't fool me, I see all that fabric behind the quilt.

Lady-T 01-18-2011 01:30 PM

OH! I really like this! That black square in the of ythe blocks center really finishes it off perfectly!!

Lori Peercy 01-18-2011 01:32 PM

I like it, reminds me of the ones my grandmother used to make, using what she had on hand.

dellareya 01-18-2011 01:36 PM

Good job of using up your stash. You are of good example for some of us.

That's really cute as a finished quilt.

Well I never said I didn't have a stash......That is the reason I am on the moritorium....flat out of space. So far I have only done some damage to the sample square bin. I have not touched the layer cakes, jelly rolls or charm squares. Hmmm maybe when I get to piecing all those backs for all the tops I am doing up, maybe I will create some breathing room on the shelves....right now I think if I tried to cram one more fat quarter in there the whole house would just 'splode.

sewmuchmore 01-18-2011 01:56 PM

Love it!! If you are planning to use up your stash I Can see that you are set for a couple years or so. I love peeking behind your quilt. You are such a tease

yonnikka 01-18-2011 02:01 PM

That is quite an impressive Stash peeking out from behind your quilt! I understand completely your Moratorium on Buying...

Frankie 01-18-2011 02:04 PM

Wow that is some stash you have behind the quilt. You are in for a lot of sewing. I imagine that will last for more than a year. Good thing you have so much extra space. Lucky you.

Gal 01-18-2011 02:39 PM

My kind of quilt, very pretty!

CarrieAnne 01-18-2011 02:43 PM

pretty!

Pat P 01-18-2011 02:51 PM

How did you get you blocks to all look the same as far as cutting (the fan shape)?

Flugiepoo 01-18-2011 02:52 PM

I like it too. What a neat design..Keep up the good work..your stash will disappear soon...

MamaBear61 01-18-2011 03:01 PM

Great use of what you already have.

sewTinker 01-18-2011 03:07 PM

I really like this. Looks so sweet and old fashioned. Very clever of you.

Ann L 01-18-2011 03:08 PM

very nice. I wish I could do something like that. My mind dosen't work that way though, I need to visualize it first. Not much fun sometimes when you just want to be creative.

I was just thinking the same thing, um could you move your quilt please so we could see the stash too??? Your quilt is pretty!

LastGrandma 01-18-2011 03:13 PM

Really scrappy and wonderful!! Now I know what to do with my left overs too!

Iluv2quilt 01-18-2011 03:23 PM

Very interesting pattern, nice work!!

lovingmama 01-18-2011 04:20 PM

Beautiful, I like it a lot!

Abuelita 01-18-2011 04:42 PM

This is beautiful. Now I don't feel so badly about all the fabric I have hoarded. What is the name of the pattern? Can I find it someplace on the web?
THanks for sharing. Muslin on the back?

brosier 01-18-2011 04:43 PM

but ... it's only January!

cavmom 01-18-2011 04:43 PM

i am with you. i am trying not to buy anything new until i use up a good portion of what i have. It is amazing how far the scrap pile will go. Made a full size dresden with just shades of blue i had and even used different color squares of blue for the backing(still have loads of blue left!) Loved the look of the pieced backing - never had done it before, but will definitely do so on the next scrap quilt i am planning.

MrsMoe4487 01-18-2011 04:47 PM

Very cool! The border looks great...nice way to use up those scraps and make a wonderful quilt :)

sewbizgirl 01-18-2011 04:51 PM

That is a great looking top! I need to do the same thing with some of the fabrics I've had for a decade or longer.

rismstress 01-18-2011 05:05 PM

very cute; nice use of your stash.
Cheryl

MaryAnna 01-18-2011 05:08 PM

Just love it! You did a great job with the fabric selection & colors! I too am on a 'fabric diet' this year! It's a year to complete that which I've started and use up what I have!
Blessings,
MaryAnna

AnnaK 01-18-2011 05:10 PM

I like it! The black and white draws all the other colors together. I'm having fun, tho a bit of a challenge. on the fab mo (fabric moratorium). Can't wait to see all the creations.
