I never realized it , but I must like mud because I like your quilt.

butterflywing 04-28-2009 06:55 PM

even i have to admit it looks better from a long distance. i should have only shown it that way and kept my mouth shut, but i had to show off the feathers. you all know how modest i am.

i know she'll like it. she'll be very teary-eyed over it. now i have to make a great label for her.

Mousie 04-28-2009 07:08 PM

YAY!!! you go girl!!!!
brag all you want to, you earned it...but keep showing us pics, ...and do that editorializing thing, too!!! lmbo!!!!

Celeste 04-28-2009 08:56 PM

I'd take it home and sleep under it!!! :D

Harmony 04-28-2009 09:26 PM

It's hard to work on a quilt you don't really like. The good news is that once you give it to her, you don't need to think about it anymore and can start planning something you DO like! And by the way, I think you did a beautiful job!

Barb M 04-28-2009 09:30 PM

Oh my gosh!!!!! You did great! I love the colours, and love the gold...and when i first looked at it, i thought it was 9patches and snowballs, but you're right, it's sister's choice, i love that block. Ok, you did a lot of "firsts" on this quilt with your quilting, just like i did, and i have to say, boy oh boy! Your feathers came out great!!!!! Mine looked like loppy hearts LOL LOL Your quilting looks absolutely gorgeous! Love it! :)

quiltswithdogs 04-28-2009 09:49 PM

You sure had a lot of points to touch... hard to do. I love the feather quilting; I've never done that. Remember, the colors are to her liking. I bet she loves it.

k3n 04-28-2009 10:50 PM

Hey BW - your baby s&#t mustard ROCKS! What are you on about woman, it's lovely!!!

Quilt4u 04-29-2009 01:34 AM

Very nice mud I'v seen . I like.

lgeorge 04-29-2009 03:22 AM

I like this quilt, very cheery. What a good job you did. I see nothing wrong with this. I wish I could do this. Thx for sharing.

mimee4 04-29-2009 04:55 AM

Give it to her inside out. The back shows off the quilting so beautifully. Let her think the "mud" is the back :D

I almost spit my coffee onto the computer screen as I was reading your description--have you ever thought of being a stand up comedian??? LOL

after years of quilting and loving my own work, i hate this one. i do fine with other kinds of quilting designs, points, etc. but of course i chose my own colors. she likes dull colors, soooo.!

so here it is. have pity and don't be too harsh. i shouldn't have tried so many 'news' on the same project. live and sometimes learn.

Butterflywing, You're too hard on yourself. I see absolutely nothing wrong in your quilting or colors you've chosen. Your dsister will love it.

Feathers 04-29-2009 07:08 AM

Butterflywing: Thanks for starting my day with a giggle and a smile! Contrary to your descriptions and dislike of your quilt I, too, think it is lovely and like CHELE said, your first quilting project sure is a a tribute to your QUILT GENE pool. What a first attempt. You did a wonderful job and I'm sure your DS is going to love it. Thanks for sharing.

gcathie 04-29-2009 07:10 AM

Okay here is another saying...."beauty is in the eye of the beholder"......I know what yah mean....I've made my fair share of what the ..... quilt's.....but I do think they become the best loved ....just because you can....:-).....

Toni C 04-29-2009 07:16 AM

You make me crack up. I like bright, jewel, eyecatching fabrics myself. Its hard to tone down for someone else's taste and FINISH it. A BIG pat on the back for sticking to it even if you didn't like the colors. She will love it :)

adrianlee 04-29-2009 07:18 AM

Butterflywing, I think you did a great job. I don't see mud, I see creative expression.

RedGarnet222 04-29-2009 07:27 AM

Butterflywing,

I think by the time I finish a project I hate many things about it too. It is so many hours staring at it I have picked it apart with my eyes. I know what you mean ... really!

But, listen to all the wonderful comments on the board. You have a winner and should be proud of your gift you made for her. I should be so lucky as to have a sister that loved me enough to spend hours making something for me.

I love your work! It is very pretty!

i've just about decided that i really never wanted the points to touch. i like the colors just the way they are. and pigs fly.

thank you for kind works and generosity.

barnbum 04-29-2009 09:24 AM

I was expecting MUCH worse.  While they aren't the colors I'd pick for me--the quilting looks awesome!!

You are too funny!!! Don't be so hard on yourself. I have made several that I hated as well. One of them was browns and tan and a touch of lite green, didn't like the colors but..... It was the colors they wanted. It is very hard to work on "yucky" colors, I heartily agree!!!

notsewgood 04-29-2009 12:53 PM

I LOVE YOUR QUILT AND I LOVE THAT ITS NOT PERFECT........I WILL NOT BE PERFECT EITHER WHEN I TRY TO GO QUILT MY FIRST QUILT.........I LOVE THE INPERFECTION.....WONDERFUL

butterflywing 04-29-2009 01:54 PM

if you love 'not perfect', come see my housework.

cbonagain 04-29-2009 04:24 PM

I have to tell you, it's a beautiful quilt, with really nice quilting, and TODAY

(now, why do i feel like your avatar is coming to get me? who is that masked man?)

judee0624 04-29-2009 04:38 PM

Of course you hate this quilt. I always hate my best work because I have expended so much time and energy on it. Put it away for a while and then you can be so proud of it. It is great. And my BD is June 24...hint,hint.

You are too funny, butterflywing! I agree with everyone else - this is NOT a muddy quilt! and your quilting is NOT terrible. Stop whining - we like it!

hulahoop1 04-29-2009 08:49 PM

You did a fine job on this quilt. At least you finished it even tho you hated it. That's more than I can say. I have a Hawaiian applique wall hanging that is 3/4's finished and I simply cannot bring myself to finish quilting it. Congratulations!

tigerlily11 04-29-2009 08:59 PM

Did it ever occur to you that you might--just might-- be just a little hard on yourself? I think it's great! Quilters do tend to be hyper self-critical when it comes to our own work and full of praise for others work. That's one reason I like this site. :)

Lainee 04-30-2009 05:27 AM

You truly are LOL funny! Another of your LOL comments was something about swinging a dead cat and hitting quilters with it...funny, funny!

I agree with you on the colors, but I really like the quilting that you've done on it!

nuttyhurricane 04-30-2009 09:00 AM

Sounds like you made one of those quilts that you learned new things on. Plus remember it isn't about you. It's about your love for your sister. She probably looks at it and says, "My sister loves me so much. She made this beautiful quilt for me." :-)

butterflywing 04-30-2009 10:33 AM

this is just an aside: not one of those fabrics is really a solid color. including the backing. how in the world do you take a picture showing small prints outside?

dvseals 04-30-2009 10:49 AM

My camera has a special setting for taking pics outside in bright sunlight,
but even so small prints and details still tend to get lost at times.
I still haven't figured out how to get the lil things to show up right tho.
I did take a few pics of a couple quilts I finished last week and did closeups
of the stitches and they turned out fine probly because it was cloudy that day. *shrugs go figure*

Maybe just try gettin a few closeups of the smaller prints.

QuiltyLisa 04-30-2009 11:35 AM

I really like the quilt. and Does this lovely quilt have a name beside muddy :)

butterflywing 04-30-2009 12:42 PM

it is a very old and tradional pattern, although not a very common one (i know why).

it's real name is "sister's choice".

in my house it's name is "sister can have it".

pennyswings 04-30-2009 02:42 PM

Butterflywing:
I have to agree with everyone else. I like it! You did a great job and I love the quilting too.
