You are too much girl. You have me laughing with each post. Penny |
When I saw the last picture, I totally got it!
You didn't hate that quilt except for one small thing - - you knew more about it than anyone else would, ever, in the whole world! I was very sympathetic with why you were not liking it as I looked at all of the close-ups, the colors were VERY bold, and VERY contrasted and ... but that last picture is absolutely BREATHTAKING! Yes! It is bright. Yes! There is a lot of quilting in there. Yes! For all of the work you have put into it, there is a simplicity in the pattern that almost makes you boring .... IF you are looking at it one small frame at a time. But as the WHOLE, from a distance encompassing the WHOLE quilt ... it is TERRIFIC! It does everything you said you wanted to do for your dear sister, and by golly! You completed something you set out to do, and that is VICTORY! Way to go, woman! |
I love it! I haven't had the nerve to do any feathers yet. I think we use the same kind of machine (Lizzie). All I do is freemotion, side to side, both directions. When I get up some nerve to try something else I'll be asking you for tips!

I like the quilt too and agree we are all probably too hard on ourselfs, we are so close to the projects after days, months, years spent with them. Your sister will love it.
With your humor, what are you going to name the quilt? It is going to be a hoot! Thanks for sharing, I have not tried anything that difficult yet. Lisa |
ooooh, i hadn't even thought to name it! now there's something to think about!

Butterflywing--you had me cracking up so bad, I finally had to quit drinking my coffee because it seemed whenever I took a big gulp, there would be one of your crazy posts. LOL
Anyway with all those first, I think you did great. I don't have the umph to freehand feathers. Your sis will love it more because it is her color choice and more importantly--you made it for her. |
I LOVE IT. you did an awesome job kiddo :D

after years of quilting and loving my own work, i hate this one. i do fine with other kinds of quilting designs, points, etc. but of course i chose my own colors. she likes dull colors, soooo.! so here it is. have pity and don't be too harsh. i shouldn't have tried so many 'news' on the same project. live and sometimes learn. One of my great loves is butterflies. Now I can say that I love Butterflywing's great quilt. Be nice to yourself, relax, and make another quilt. |
xxxooo

I like it too.

the colors are not true in any of the pics. if you find the darkest, dreariest of the colors, and think way, way darker, MUDDIER, then you will come closer.
it was really as though a child dragged it through the muddy yard. it was unpleasant to work on and i'm glad it's not mine, although i would not have chosen those colors to begin with. it is what it is. i' ll see her soon and say goodbye to it. but i love all the pats on my back. thank you all. |
   Are you kidding? It looks Great!!!!

thank you ania

Welcome to the "I'm my own worst enemey club." It's pretty. Your quilting is beautiful & she'll love it because her sister made it for her. Now hush up and enjoy the" atta boys " your getting 'cause you did a beautiful job. Oh by the way I'm president of the club so you can be vice president.

then we can both take minutes.

Butterflywing you had me rofl when I read your description of this quilt. I think it is just fine! If those are the colors your sister likes she will love it and more so because you took the time to make it for her :)
My sister loves brights...ugh...not quite my thing (although I guess looking at the fabrics I picked for my chicken blocks you wouldn't have guessed). Everytime I go to make her something and I walk thru all the electric blue, lime green, hot pink, whatever that orange and yellow that blinds you is called I just cringe and moan inwardly. I just put on my sunglasses and sew. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-cool14.gif |

I find it amazing to see what colors "speak" to people. I like a variety of things but tend towards Jewel tones and I LOVE orientals. Pastels and brights are generally not my thing. Alrhough sometimes I find a particular fabric that's interesting to me and I build around it. Batiks look...I don't know scrambled and muddy to me unless they are shades of 1 color and then I can use another blender just as well. But I know people love them and I have seen some beautiful batik quilts here.
For some reason I am loving black, white and red quilts that are popular now and it's on my list of to dos. I am trying to use colors I am not generally drawn to just to stretch my designing a bit. My bright chicken blocks have been fun to design but we will see if the resulting quilt actually lives at my house lol. |

Your quilting is great. Anytime you want to practice your machine quilting, let me know. I have a few tops I'd love you to "ruin". Your quilt is beautiful.
|
Oh wow! It's a perfectly lovely quilt. I can't believe you did all that quilting and it was your first try. I could NEVER have been able to do that on a domestic machine................it's huge!! Vey nice job!
|
jackie - i did it on a longarm. i have the tin lizzie and the hintenberg (sp) frame. it was the first planned-out quilting and the first feathers and stipples. don't worry. i won't put you out of business. so hold on to your customer list! LOL! thanks for the encouragement.
