on a baby quilt that I am working for my oldest daughter's baby shower that is this coming weekend. Should I put the hot pink around each block or just sew all the blocks together and just put borders around them? Also I had heard somewhere that if you use minkies type fabric as backing that it cant be quilted on a longarm. Does anyone know if this true? If I use cotton or flannel on the back will it be able to be quilted on a longarm if a few of the blocks on the front are minkies and there is not to be any quilting on those blocks?
Thanks for your help, Robyn |
I like the blocks with the pink around them.

I like the pink stripping. Wonderful quilt. Sorry I can't answer the other question as I don't know about the minky.
|
I like that shashing,
I am not sure on the minky, I have done some long arm quliting but have yet to try doing minky, I imagine that it is because it stretches more than anything. though for sure, it is a best guess, so whether they will do it with any on the front is beyond me, I would ask whom ever is doing it, and if it is you, I would do some samples to see how well it works, |
I can't give any advice about the minky questions, but I love the pink around the blocks!
|
Yup! I like the pink around each individual block, too!
Love your colors! |

Thanks for letting me know what you thought about the pink sashing. I really like it too. I haven't completed my first quilt yet. I several UFO'S that need to be finished. I just wanted have so in put on if it looked good like that.
Thanks, Robyn |
I also love the pink around the blocks. My machine quilter friend says she has no problems with quilts using minky as backing. I have seen lots of quilts she has done and they are all nice and smooth on the backs. Don't know how quilting small blocks within a quilt would be but I can't see that it would any different. Good luck.

Pink pink, and minky can be used as a backing i have several quilts with it on the backs, some laq's won't work with it due to the stretch, I was fortunate to find one long ago who did a beautiful job with minky and my quilts.

Can't help you with the quilting part....sorry, but I do like your quilt with the pink sashings. Nice way to set off the blocks. That really is a cute baby quilt.
|
Minky will make a wonderful backing. I quilt with it and love it. My suggestion is to just prepare the backing Minky so that the selvages are the ends that are pinned to the canvas. Hope that makes sense.

I really like the pink around it myself.

I've backed two baby quilts with Minkee and taken them to my longarmer. She said she had no problem quilting them. My first one was also the first Minkee she had ever quilted and she liked it so well she backed one of her's for her hubby with Minkee. Both of mine were the smooth Minkee and hers was the dots both looked great when done. The quilting designs show up really well on the Minkee - looks neat!
