WOW, so many opinions! Do which one you like! Everyone has personal preferences.

the balance of the blocks is much better in the last 2 additions of pics! LOVE THEM! would lose the gray border!IF you feel you need another a inner black would really pop the blocks!

I like the first. the second one is a little too "busy" for me

try putting the same blocks going diagonally and see if you like that any better.

I think the second arraingement is on the right path. Swap the bottom right with the center block, that might help with balence.
