I Need to Name This Feathered Star...

2 Attachment(s)
I took a class from Marsha McCloskey in November 2010 at the Annapolis, MD Quilt Guild. I sent this Radiant Star to a long-arm quilter who kept it for 15 months (eyes-rolling, I won't even get into that!) I think she did a really nice job on the quilting.

I'd like to put it in the Annapolis Quilt Guild show this year, but I need to name it. Do you have any suggesstions?

p.s. The pattern for the feathered star is in Marsha McCloskey's Feathered Star Quilt Blocks I book. I designed the borders.

I would call it "Oh, my gosh". That was my reaction when I saw it. What a lot of work and a great job

nabobw 02-22-2012 05:32 AM

That is really beautiful

I'm not good at naming, but that is a stunning - beautiful quilt. What a unique design in the center, and you did a wonderful job on the borders. But 15 months at the LAQ'er. Oh my goodness. I'd have been wondering if I was ever going to get it back... Best of luck to you in the show.

what is the name of the fabric line you used? Is there a pretty name there?

lovely quilt.

SoozeeDoozee 02-22-2012 06:16 AM

Pretty quilt, nice feather quilting. Reminds me of sunset at the edge of the forest.

heart of Dixie 02-22-2012 06:40 AM

Really nice I love the quilt and the quilting

Treasureit 02-22-2012 06:46 AM

Beautiful! Some how it reminds me of heat and snow ... The heat of the moment - Dangers of Winter - Warmth by the Fire...OK getting weird here!

jaciqltznok 02-22-2012 06:48 AM

I can not tell what the flower is, but how about Autumn Rose(or what ever the flower is)

Me too. Thats the first thing I thought of, the sunsets I saw while camping when I was a kid.

Beautiful quilt and quilting, just one question, did she get into the dark blue print on the bottom of the pic with her quilting? If she did, did she also do the same quilting on the other dark points? If not I would remove the quilting in that one point. 15 months way to long for quilting. as for a name hummm how about sunset rose.

Kaleidoscope Poppy! And very beautiful - love the colors

MdmSew'n'Sew 02-22-2012 08:20 AM

My first thought was "Morning Star" since it looks so bright, more like just before sunrise when the stars seem to fade away ...

QuiltnNan 02-22-2012 08:22 AM

how about 'star bouquet'? it's really gorgeous

Tweety2911 02-22-2012 08:33 AM

Sorry, bad at naming. Gorgeous quilt and quilting! Good Luck in the show!

Tartan 02-22-2012 09:08 AM

Well she did quilt it beautifully. Maybe she was intimidated by your beautiful top and didn't want to mess it up? The first thing that popped into my head was "Star Of The East" as in the song that goes...Star of the east , oh Bethlehem star...

BLAP 02-22-2012 09:16 AM

I can't help with the name but it is a gorgeous quilt.

mighty 02-22-2012 09:48 AM

Love the names, what a beautiful quilt!!!

cjackaitlin 02-22-2012 10:34 AM

Is that flower a Hibiscus? If it is how about Hibiscus Star. It's lovely whatever you call it. Thanks for sharing.

Grandma Peg 02-22-2012 11:09 AM

Love the quilt, but unfortunately no good at thinking of a name. That is hard to believe you LAQ had this for 15 months.

burchquilts 02-22-2012 11:26 AM

Oh my! How about "A Quilt that Rebecca Couldn't Make If Her Life Depended On It"? LOL! That quilt is STUNNING! Wowee! I like the forest sunset name idea.

blondeslave 02-22-2012 12:22 PM

Beautiful quilt!

quiltinggrandmabeth 02-22-2012 12:28 PM

Shrink42020 02-22-2012 12:48 PM

patmas57 02-22-2012 01:09 PM

That was my thought. For some reason "morning star" came to my mind immediately. Not sure why.

miss_ticky2 02-22-2012 02:07 PM

Wow that awesome. Not good on names...Starburst?

colwoods 02-22-2012 04:14 PM

How about Annapolis Star?

joyce888 02-22-2012 04:21 PM

Thank you for your kind words. I'm not sure about your question. Are you talking about the black diamonds at the tip of the star? Those aren't quilted at all.

Actually, that's pretty much what she said. She tried several things that she didn't like and took all of her stitching out. She just couldn't make up her mind what would look the best. She finally finished it when I gave her one more week, finished or not. She offered it to me for free, but I paid her for it anyway. The quilting is lovely.

This is a really wonderful quilt. I think I might call it Autumn Glow. But the name is really unimp[ortant. Your choice of fabrics is certainly not what I would have selcted forthis, but it works stunningly. Good for you.

M.I.Late 02-22-2012 08:02 PM

Looks like "Harvest Poppy" to me. :)
