My goodness it's a great thing for you to remember. What a great looking machine, with attachments no less.

It is awesome you have one of these beauties, and the fact that it was your mom's makes it that much more exciting!!! I am doing a Happy Dance for you :D:D:D

Put a bar of Irish Spring soap, still in the box into the sewing machine box, it may absorb the odors.

Did you know you can find it's Birthday? There's a number on the bottom that allows you to find out. I don't know if it's published or if you call in. Bet someone else can tell you...or I'll ask my GF and she'll tell me again! I have two and she told me how when I first got them.
Yours is much more special because you know the history. I learned to sew on one, but my Mom traded it in for a newer model. :( Happy for you!

Awesome.

Isn't it so cool that it was still there for you when you were ready for it?

That is wonderful. I would suggest you look at the manual and oil it, let it sit overnight and then get a scrap of cloth, thread the machine and give it a try. It may not need more than that. These machines are so very easy to maintain yourself, Do not take to shop unless all else fails. When you get it running well and decide to polish it( nothing abrasive, remember) I recommend you go to a Harley Davidson dealer and get a bottle of Harley Glaze. It is a liquid polish, does a beautiful job will not hurt the finish. I am just an old Granny that loves to play with featherweights. Have fun.

GOOD FOR YOU

MonkeeGirl 04-29-2010 04:46 PM

Thank you everyone for the great words of joy.

Cabinqltr..I'll let DH do the oiling when he gets home. He loves to work on cars and motorcycles, might as well learn sewing machines. Already got the Harley Glaze, can't use anything else on the 2007 Soft-tail. Nice to know it'll work on the FW. BTW, I might need to go to HD...only 1/2 mile from the LQS!!!!! OHHHHHH, could I spend some BIG $$$$$$
