Tha first block was my practice block, then I did the duck and the dog. I was always scared to try this but it's so easy and such fun! Thanks for looking. :D

Great job K! The first pp I tried, I ended up reversing colors and not having large enough pieces of fabric. You did good!

Iluv2quilt 09-15-2009 04:50 AM

You did an awesome job! amma is such a great teacher! I tried it too, so much fun! I love the duckie and the puppy!!

k3n 09-15-2009 04:54 AM

thanks everyone :D

Bear - amma showed me a way of printing an extra block to cut up and use as templates - works really well, wastes less fabric and ensures that your scraps are always big enough. :D

Finally! Someone else who had trouble! I was begining to think there was something very wrong with me.

I absolutely love the dog! He just screams to become a block in a little boy's quilt.

allisonirons 09-15-2009 06:36 AM

I love the duckie! :!:

Thanks everyone for your kind comments - as always, you all make a gal feel goooood! :D

Lisa - I HAD thought of making these into a lap quilt for a little boy I know back in the UK as a Christmas present. I've been googling like mad for PP patterns in this kind of 'style' so if anyone has any links - I'd be ever so grateful.. :D Oh and anyone got any ideas how you'd place these? Sashing? Squares in between or blocks of some kind? All ideas welcome! :D

Paper piecing is fun! I love your little duck! What's your plan for these? Are you going to do a whole quilt off PP'd animals?

Yes it is - so much so I did another one! This was in two sections (I hadn't had the 'training' in that!) and I messed up the join a little.

I want to make more and do a lap quilt for a little boy, maybe with some other blocks in between? I'm on the look out for ideas - all welcome! :D

cutebuns 09-15-2009 07:35 AM

great Job!

katier825 09-15-2009 07:56 AM

You did great! I really enjoyed it too. Now I have a couple of paper pieced projects waiting in the wings...soon!

RedGarnet222 09-15-2009 08:05 AM

LOL k3n Those animals are adorable. I am glad you tried it. It isn't hard at all is it? You did a great job on them.

I enjoy seeing the blocks come to life as you piece them.
Normally it is so hard to piece tiny blocks and not have them get wonky, this way makes them perfectly.

Thanks Red! When I saw what tiny pieces the cat's ears were I nearly had kittens myself!  But this way, it works fine! :D I didn't really 'get' PP before but now I see that you can make really intricate blocks with itsy bitsy pieces - and I'm HOOKED! :D

SulaBug 09-15-2009 09:50 AM

Those blocks turned out great!! :D
I am so intrigued with PP & want to
try it out myself. Thank you for
sharing with all of us today.
:D :D :D :D :D

The fabric for the Kitty is perfect, nice work!

Thanks Suzi - it's actually supposed to be wood but I thought it looked kind of tabby and I have a tabby cat so... :D

billswife99 09-15-2009 10:12 AM

I love the animals! What a fun quilt they will make. I have tried PP too and kind of like it but I don't know if I would want to make a big quilt from it. The animals are great because each one is different. And I love the tip about cutting an extra pattern for the fabric template!

littlehud 09-15-2009 10:16 AM

Those are great. I really want to try paper piecing, but haven't gotten up the nerve yet.

k3n 09-15-2009 10:56 AM

Hi Bettia - of course I can :D

You just print out an extra foundation and mark an X on the wrong side of all the pieces before cutting them out. Then use them as templates to cut your fabric - template X side up, fabric right side up. I just 'eyeballed' a generous 1/4" seam allowance round each one then trimmed the seams back to an exact 1/4" after they were sewn. But after only 4 blocks, I'm NO expert! :D
