Hah! The rulers are on the wall and all the hanging plastic bags with fabric in them hanging from hooks are my WIP's and such. :) I have cats that like to nest in my fabric so I have keep them all under wraps. :)

I have a free bookcase coming over this evening so I think I'm going to buy the hard comic book bakers and use those to wrap my fabric stash and put them in the bookcase. That is if my patience holds out....doing stuff like THAT drives me crazy!

JEALOUS ! WOW GREAT SEWING AREA LOVE YOUR IDEA FOR THE ISLAND :) I'LL HAVE TO CHECK OUT MY CRAIG'S LIST

Becca 09-01-2010 12:45 PM

Gorgeous room, I'm jealous. I have a very small sewing room and I needed a cutting table. I found a butcher-block kitchen island at Mennards. The height is perfect, with 2 drawers and 2 open shelves. Also it is on rollers so I can move it if I want a different arrangement.

Tallulah 09-01-2010 06:11 PM

Wish that I had a basement! Love your set up. Well planned out. I also love the knotty pine paneling. Be sure to keep it original. No covering it with paint. :)

sewnsewer2 09-01-2010 07:02 PM

Michael I LOVE your sewing room and all that space...WOW!

Shemjo 09-01-2010 07:17 PM

Gret ideas for reuse! Thanks for sharing and making me jealous of your space!

I'm not sure....it's the entire half of our basement. So I am fortunate to have space to streatch out. Also on the other side is my new toy.

Someday I would LOVE to get an Imperial frame. But for now this setup is great for me, and what I could afford....now I'm eatting ramen noodle for a few mohts until all of my quilting bills are paid off....:)

Awesome space!! Caution on that ramen noodle stuff -- use only a little of the "seasoning." It's super high in sodium!

vivientan 09-02-2010 01:47 AM

Great job on your sewing room! It's absolutely gorgeous! Very warm and cosy place to work in. I would eat ramen for the rest of my life if I could have a sewing room like yours!

Tussymussy 09-02-2010 01:58 AM

The green in your room is gorgeous - the colour I have gone. I am sooooooooo envious of the equipment and space you have.

I will be downgrading house soon and that basement will probably be the whole space I will have to live in. OMG what am I going to do with my quilting books, stash and 3 sewing machines and 2 overlockers? Anyone got some sky hooks?

smagruder 09-02-2010 02:02 AM

Love your room. You are very creative and handy. I would eat Ramon Noodles for that room too.

anicra 09-02-2010 02:38 AM

Great sewing room and that's a terrific idea with the cabinet.

jdavis 09-02-2010 03:59 AM

Once again I am very jealous!!!!

Great idea, checking the re-store, etc.

norma Jean 09-02-2010 04:51 AM

I just love your sewing room. If only I could be so neat! You have some great ideas. I use my freezer for my cutting of material.

My daughter has a Gammill and a bad back. She bought an electric chair/stool with foot pedals that glides along on tracks in front of her frame. Makes quilting a lot more comfortable for her. It was pricy, but that's what she does for a living.

OMG!!! What a room!!! I'm green with envy! My room is a small bedroom which I love but the bed is gonna have to go! Before my next project I will do a make over. Can't stand having my machine table against a wall anymore. Turning it around, finally! I will and can make this room work for me! I love being able to walk out and shut the door. I know I'm more fortunate than many who use their dining room or living room to do their sewing. Thanks for some great ideas!

marlene tarzwell 09-02-2010 07:09 AM

What a great room.I am squeezed into a guest room and have 6 or 8[sometimes] folding 4ft tables in our liv.room and can barely get around it. Thank goodness we have a big den that we use all the time. Boy what I would give for a sewing room and a long arm etc. You have such a nice setup.

Georgia1944 09-02-2010 07:57 AM

I have and idea,,lol,,want to trade crafts rooms i am wall to all with computer and sewing table and cutting table,pleaseeeeeeeee..lol very nice room thanks for showing it

Patched 09-02-2010 08:33 AM

Great idea, neat sewing room.

buslady 09-02-2010 09:45 AM

I just bought an ironing board at a craft sale, it is attached to the top of a cabinet, but the board itself is in 3 sections and the two sides fold down when not used. Perfect for the small area I have. Prior to that we were always running into everything.

mshawii 09-02-2010 09:59 AM

Michael, I was looking at your blog, and I was looking at your friends new machine (nice), and you mentioned you wanted a machine with a stitch cutter. Might I also suggest a bigger neck area. I just bought a new Pfaff Expressions 4.0, and it has the larger neck. I am looking forward to doing some machine quilting on it when I get my hand out of this darn cast. I had thumb joint replacement 5 weeks ago. Can't even use the new machine. Darn!!!

ramonarivera2010 09-02-2010 10:02 AM

WOW, what a great room to work in...SWEET

If you have a window, put your table so one end of it is toward the window, preferably to the needle end is toward the light. This gives you natural light. I did this and it is great. I have a light on the wall to the left of the window for night sewing. I also have an old dining room Formica table put up on bed lifters to raise it to the right height for my cutting table. When I machine quilt I take the cutting board off and take the table off the risers and it is just right to hold the weight of the quilt.

KarenS 09-02-2010 10:54 AM

Amazing sewing room!! Do you do long arm quilting for others or is it just for your own projects?

farmquilter 09-02-2010 12:17 PM

I think I better go get some closet pole brackets for my roll of batting. That is great to have it right over the cutting table. You have neat ideas to make quilting easier and neater. Great room you have, maybe this winter mine can get organized.

sew wishful 09-02-2010 01:14 PM

Great idea, mshawii!!! Thank you!! I don't often have the opportunity to sew in the daytime. Usually after supper. The light certainly makes sense, though and I do have an old table not being used, so may take that to the sewing room too! Then the bed definitely has to go!! LOL!

They call them The Re-Store. Here's a list of the store in the US:

What a wonderful wonderful room. what I wouldn't give for such a great space in which to work on my quilts. I'm as green with envy as your walls. You've done a great job, something to make you so proud. Go ahead we'll let you.

Judie 09-02-2010 08:04 PM

Great room.. Great idea for your cutting station.. can't beat a good cutting table at the right height... and the storage under is a big bonus.. You'll love working there.
