I'm ready to cry "Uncle"-help me not to give up!

This project has taken a few years. I made a few blocks, put it away for six months. Made a few more, put it away for a year. Started out thinking it would be queen size, trimmed it down to a big throw size. I thought echo quilting the strips would keep the modern look. But with this many straight lines, you have to use the feed dogs to keep them straight. I swear my arms are ready to give out from flipping and pushing this quilt through my machine.
Ok. Done with my break-diving back in. |
sorry it's so tedious... but it will be gorgeous when done.
that's a pretty darned kewl quilt.
i hope your arms hold out because it looks well worth the effort! |
I think you will be pleased with it when it is done. Don't quit now. It will be beautiful for sure. I just finished one that about drove me bonkers. I am so glad it is done and pleased I persevered. You will be, too.
Looking good, now get back in there and finish it!:D
Don't give up! It's really going to be beautiful when finished. But, I bet you feel like you're wrestling with a bear when you're pushing & pulling...lol. You'll be so pleased after it's completed.
I agree with QuiltNan...keep going. your quilting is going to make that quilt awesome!!
Oh I love it too. I hope you can finish it, but want you to have fun too.

Your quilting is gorgeous. This will make such an unusual quilt. Please persevere!
Put yourself on a schedule -- so make it easy by doing it in pieces -- 2 blocks a day - or so many minutes and finish that block and call it a day.
There seems to be a thing about quilting some tops -- have seen it discussed here off and on. Sometimes its best to let the top "age" a bit while you figure out how to quilt it properly. And then, to take that in segments too, so it doesn't become tedious. (Try not to do this with dinner --it doesn't work so well with food!) This is a wonderful top and will make an outstanding quilt. So don't let it get to you, but you get to it! |
Keep going. The result is going to be SO worth it!
That is gorgeous! Wow! My arms and neck would be in pain!! Since you mentioned the width of the presser foot, I assume that you are not doing FMQ. Yikes! Stitch, turn, stitch, turn, etc.?
That is just going to be stunning when you are done. The quilting just makes that block!
I certainly don't envy you, but I think you will be so proud of yourself when you finish it. I don't blame you for cutting the size down. I am cheering you on, can you hear me now?

Thanks ladies! This is exactly what I needed. I just finished the last of the inside blocks. Hoping the ones on the edges will be easier to wrestle!
Wow!! Amazing work! Don't give up...press on...it will be worth it!
Like the others I really want you to keep on. This is going to be a real beauty. Can't wait to see it finished. BrendaK

beautiful quilting, very impressive
Wow that is going to be stunning when you're done! The quilting really enhances your blocks. Can't wait to see it when it's finished.
I know what you mean about the pain even though yours is a much larger quilt. Earlier this year I made a black/white/gray baby quilt that was 4 really big log cabin blocks. I used FMQ and it was impossible to keep the rows even and straight. I kept doing it that way because it needed to be done. But even with the FMQ I had to keep turning it and pushing and pulling it. My shoulders and arms were so sore. And my quilting looked really bad. Yours is beautiful! |
I looks fantastic so don't stop now.
Please keep going! It is going to very impressive when you finish. Love what we see so far.
thats really cool! i know its too late but is there a way next time you can do a qayg? maybe if you were only dealing with one block at a time it might not be so hard on the shoulders. i think its going to be great tho when its done!
It's beautiful!!
so sorry but it will be absolutely gorgeous when you are done. that I would have done by blocks or rows in a quilt as you go method. next time!
please dont give up its going to be beautiful!!!
Think of it as a workout--that way you are quilting and exercising at the same time! Gyms have all kinds of machines for upper body workouts, but I bet they never thought to include sewing machines! :)
The quilt is beautiful. |
Its going to be beautiful! My mom used to have a saying, "Don't eat the cow, then choke on it's tail!" Looks like you've already eaten the cow... so don't stop now! I feel your pain with the tugging and pulling (I have a bad back and neck, too) but take it a little at a time and soon it will be done! You can do it, you will do it! I'll be watching for the finished picture. Keep up the great work.
OMG, your quilting is just awesome. It will be a masterpiece.

And everyone who said to do it as a quilt-as-you-go.. I've been kicking myself for not thinking of that earlier!! |
It is truly an amazing quilt. Love everything about it PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP Don't care if it takes another year It WILL be worth it!!!
Wow...love it! You are doing a wonderful job.
Oh that is going to be one heck of a quilt when you are done! The quilting you've done so far is amazing! Like it lots! Keep up the good work and if you want, you can still continue to work on it until you need a break from it. Put it away for a while and bring it out from time to time. It will look wonderful when completed!
You are doing a wonderful job. Don't give up now. You may not want to look at it for a while when you're finished, but you will be so proud of the beautiful quilt you end up with. I did a queen-size "stack n whack" quilt on a standard sewing machine. I quilted it 1/4" from the seams there was a lot of twisting and tugging. I almost hated it when I got it finished, but now it's on our bed and I love it. So hang in there, you will be glad you did.
Wow! I've never seen one like this before! Its going to be beautiful!! What did PatriceJ call it.... darned kewl? Can you tell us the process? Are those stripes appliqued on there? Keep going!!! By all means!
It looks GREAT!! Keep up the good work!
I'm with Hulalulu. Figure out how many blocks you can do comfortably at one time. Do them, pat yourself on the back and walk away, 'till next time. Looking forward to seeing it finished. It will be beautiful!
Please post pictures when you get this quilt finished. It's going to be awesome!
You are doing a great job, it looks fantastic!!
But it looks fabulous! I love it so far.
Can you try using your FMQ foot for the shorter lines? It takes some practice but you can do it, easier than keeping turning the quilt. But either way, keep going, it will be so worth it at the end. |
