This is a ufo that I've had for years. I wasn't able to afford to get if quilted, so it sat in a bag for years. Anyways, could you all give me your opinions on how to get it quilted. It's probably gonna have to be a pantogragh, but what color should I do the thread? It just seems like the black really stand out to me. Maybe the green or orange, maybe the purple. What do you think? The back will be the tropical fabric too. Thanx for any suggestions.

sahm4605 03-06-2011 11:31 AM

maybe some neon/black light or glow in the dark thread would be really cool on it. I love the quilt top though.

redquilter 03-06-2011 11:32 AM

I'msorry I can't offer advice on quilting, but I can tell you it's gorgeous!

HummerGardenCrafts 03-06-2011 11:35 AM

I love this quilt top. You did great putting it together. I hope to learn to do blocks like that soon.

Lv2sew2011 03-06-2011 11:36 AM

Awesome colors...

MadQuilter 03-06-2011 11:38 AM

I'd go with variegated thread that has the green and orange in it and do either vines or random flowers in an overall design. It's very bright. You did a good job on this tropical delight.

Murphy 03-06-2011 11:47 AM

Variegated greens might be nice; a pattern that would give it a wavy motion would be great. The quilt is beautiful. You did a great job. Thank you for sharing.

PurplePassion 03-06-2011 12:12 PM

Pretty quilt. Varigated thread always matches good.

cuppi duke 03-06-2011 12:13 PM

I would love a purple variegated thread. Your quilt is beautiful and you did a great job matching the points and centers.

Don't know about quilting but that is one gorgeous quilt!!!!

PaperPrincess 03-06-2011 01:06 PM

Gorgeous!!! Navy?? Dark Purple?? Actually, I am just quilting a OBW and used metallic gold in a meander.

btiny36 03-06-2011 01:24 PM

Personally I would do it in variegated green, BTW wonderful job on the quilt top....

4girlsmimi 03-06-2011 01:25 PM

Love the quilt top. Like those neon tropical colors. Quilting thread depends on how much you want it to show up. I don't quilt all that great, so I tend to use a color that will blend and not be seen as well. :D

rosemaynes 03-06-2011 02:06 PM

As a longarmer I would tell you two things... if you want more design in the black aria then it should be quilted with green thread. That way the design will show up in the black and you will see what the quilt pattern is. However if you don't want more design then it should be quilted in the black. That way what ever shows (if at all) will only show in the green fabric and being that they are busy print, they wont show that much. There is my two cents worth.

I would probably pick out one of the bright colors that was my favorite. That way it adds additional pop to the solid sections.

feffertim 03-06-2011 02:56 PM

love the fabric you used, it's beautiful.

quiltlady 03-06-2011 03:00 PM

Variegated - love your quilt -makes me want to go to the tropics.

p38flygirl 03-06-2011 03:01 PM

I would use variegated thread....

thequilteddove 03-06-2011 03:09 PM

I vote gold.

Sallyflymi 03-06-2011 03:14 PM

Great quilt. Like the idea of metallic gold. Would really make it pop.

LoriEl 03-06-2011 03:16 PM

Love that quilt! It's one I've had on my to do list for years but keep waiting for the right fabric to come along.

needles3thread 03-06-2011 03:17 PM

How about using charcoal thread?

abc123retired 03-06-2011 04:13 PM

I, too, would use a variegated green. Beautiful quilt you have there.

kathymarie 03-06-2011 04:16 PM

This is a repeat of what others have said...but when I first saw the quilt I thought I'd quilt it in variegated thread...I'm sure you can find greens, oranges and purples in one spool....your top is gorgeous....

Neena 03-06-2011 04:20 PM

Variegated green thread...wow the parrot blocks are gorgeous!

Unique Creations 03-06-2011 05:31 PM

Love your quilt, and I would quilt it with varigated thread also.

Vicki W 03-06-2011 05:32 PM

I would go with green but green is my favorite color anyways. I love your top

the casual quilter 03-06-2011 05:53 PM

pattypurple 03-06-2011 06:04 PM

Don't know about the quilting, but if you get tired of it I'll send you my address. It is gorgeous.

It is beautiful ever how you have it quilted. Show us pic after you have it quilted. It is simply beautiful

BZEQUILTER 03-07-2011 06:21 AM

Love your quilt top!! I plan to do one soon with a black background--I would think black thread--but I'm not any expert!! I just think it would blend in good on the front and back.

tslowery 03-07-2011 06:24 AM
