My grandma's sewing machine that even my mom doesn't remember her using but my dad said she used it patching many of their jeans.

But I was told it was in the cedar closet in the attic, in the back. And we just started cleaning things out of there to get a chimney rebuilt and the sewing machine was on the other side, but I had to pull it out today while no one else was home because I didn't believe it. Well here it is, a White Dressmaster bought brand new on October 12, 1965(I found the manual). I have no idea if it still works as there's no outlets back there, but it's so pretty and as it was in the cabinet, there was hardly a layer of dust on it and it's not been touched in at least 5 years.

And looking through the manual, there are a lot of things underlined and circled which will help if we finally pull it out and try sewing with it. But I had to share as everyone else has pictures up of theirs!

I forgot to take one of it inside the table, but you can see most of the table here

Candace 08-01-2011 11:53 AM

Do you mean it's a white Dressmaker or that it's made by White? I thought White and Dressmaker were two different manufacturers. Very cool!

Carron 08-01-2011 11:54 AM

Great machine. Lucky you.

I'm not sure really. The manual has a spot for the model sold and it's hand written "White Dressmaker" but the machine is more of a medium grey so I don't know if they were referring to the color or what. If anyone finds info on the machine, I'd be grateful to have it though

Candace 08-01-2011 12:07 PM

Sara, I don't believe this is manufactured by White. I suspect it's the color in the manual it's referring to. But if you google Dressmaker you should find more info. on it and the model.

Charlee 08-01-2011 12:11 PM

White did badge Dressmaker machines for a time...as did Davis.

Nice machine!

babyfireo4 08-01-2011 12:12 PM

Wow! nice attic find :)

Chickerson 08-01-2011 12:14 PM

Your grandmother took such good care of this treasure and having it hidden for her grandaughter to find and use one day. Warms my heart with warm fuzzies.

owlvamp 08-01-2011 12:15 PM

Beautiful machine.

I believe you're right. I googled it and found one a little nicer looking in black but without the table. It said that the Dressmaker class 15 (what I'm pretty sure mine is) is an exact clone of a singer model 15. Was this a good machine? The singer I mean??

MDMPanther 08-01-2011 12:17 PM

Oh wow...she's beautiful!!!

marscrafter 08-01-2011 12:17 PM

Neat! My main machine is a White from the 60s as well, they are sturdy beasts. LOL

SuzyQ 08-01-2011 12:19 PM

The Singer 15 models are awesome machines, as are most of the "clones".
However, there was no sewing machine MANUFACTURER named "Dressmaker"....these were machines that were made FOR Dressmaker by either White or Davis.

Mariposa 08-01-2011 12:26 PM

amma 08-01-2011 12:33 PM

She's a beauty. So glad you dug her out.

virtualbernie 08-01-2011 02:08 PM

Funny, the front of the machine says "DressMASTER" but she still looks like a 15 clone--the best in my opinion.
