Thank you everyone for your help on this! I put an updated pic of the borders on page 3. What do you think? I think it would look better with the applique vine on the side, but I'm new to applique and wouldn't want to mess it up.

The applique vines would look great. You can pin them on before you sew to see if you like it or not but... you CAN do it and you WON'T mess it up!!!!

Sorry - I posted before I read all five pages and realized that you were done. It looks really nice.
I also posted "after the fact", and I apologize!
Your corners look way better than I imagined. Looking forward to seeing what else you end up with throughout the black borders.

I think I'd like to try the applique vines and maybe add flowers of different jewel colors. Do you think it would be too difficult to do this since the borders are already on the quilt?

jdavis 08-11-2009 05:03 AM

You didn't ask me directly, but...
Having the borders already on might prove to be helpful! More to hold onto.
But then, I'm not an applique expert.
Glad someone suggested pinning first, to see how you like it.

Iluv2quilt 08-11-2009 05:24 AM

I'm just learning to applique. Thank you for reminding me to pin first!

You did this quilt in 3 weeks? Unbelievable! Simply beautiful

QM 03-12-2013 07:29 PM

Very good job. I like the idea of the black border, but would probably put 1 or 2 narrow borders inside that. Maybe red and turquoise.

Beautiful, beautiful quilt! 3,000 pieces - that amazes me.

3,000 pieces would make me crazy. Well, crazier.

AS you ask, I think two borders or three,#1 - I think a flange or tiny 1/4" to 1/2" to enclose the quilt, probably black, would lend itself to soft framing as the design and color combinations present as bold, softer so the eye is drawn to the quilt itself then - still use two colors, narrow and wider, pick your favorites like the blues and lavenders, whatever YOUR favorites are. What is in the room where the quilt will live? I love your work. Thank you for sharing your quilt and the name of your quilt pattern. That is so considerate.

Awesome!!!!!!!

Canada Kate 03-13-2013 05:00 AM

This is stunning. I would go with an all black border, and quilt the border in straight lines, 1/2" apart.

That is AWESOME. what a wonderful job. thx for showing.

I would go with the black border and the cornerstones,
maybe quilt the borders with bright varigated threads?

Love the variegated threads idea- I would definitely do a black border. And it is a gorgeous quilt! Beautiful work!

4EVERquilt 03-13-2013 11:44 AM

awesome looking quilt!!

quilt-n-girl 03-13-2013 12:29 PM

I love the colors in the quilt you made, I think a six inch boarder would look great, if it will make the quilt as big as you need it to be. I make the quilt, and then add to the boarders to it until it makes a queen size. You sure do have a lot of pieces in your quilt, and a lot of work. It is so beautiful, so enjoy it. Great job, and keep up the good work.
