Finally, I have the bulk of the top done!! :D :D :D Over 3,000 tiny pieces! Now I'm just debating on borders for this quilt. I'm thinking to put a 5" - 8" black border with 4 patches as cornerstones. What do you all think? Any other ideas?? I'm open to any and all suggestions.

I'm sorry! All the colors didn't turn show up outside. Probably should have taken the picture in the house.

janRN 08-02-2009 06:04 PM

WOW!! That is awesome. Your colors and your work are beautiful. Sorry I can't help you with a border selection--I'm too overwhelmed by that quilt!!

2wheelwoman 08-02-2009 06:11 PM

Love, love, love the quilt! It's spectacular! I like the idea of the black border, but not sure about cornerstones. But, then again, I never know what to do on my OWN quilts, so you just have to go with your gut.

Jim's Gem 08-02-2009 06:27 PM

Wow!!! Lots of tiny pieces. It's beautiful!

tlrnhi 08-02-2009 06:37 PM

No clue on the border.
I'm still trying to get over all those little pieces!

amma 08-02-2009 06:54 PM

Awesome!!! It is a jewel!!! :D :D :D
I would go with the black border and the cornerstones,
maybe quilt the borders with bright varigated threads?

Iluv2quilt 08-02-2009 07:03 PM

Thank you so much everyone! :D :D :D

Great idea Amma - I just love varigated thread on black. It shows up so well.

Lisanne 08-02-2009 07:06 PM

Are you kidding? It looks just like jewels! You can take a picture of the finished quilt indoors and we'll all compare. It's gorgeous!

blahel 08-02-2009 07:11 PM

it is gorgeous...myyyy woorrd how many pieces are there in that quilt!! lucky it didnt show up all the colors outside or i would have been blinded....bedazzled even!

Tippy 08-02-2009 07:15 PM

Black borders would be perfect.. also the cornerstones... beautiful....just Beautiful.

kluedesigns 08-02-2009 07:21 PM

it looks great. i like your idea of a large black border with 4P cornerstones. then you can do some pretty quilting in the large border with some jewel variegated thread.

sharon b 08-02-2009 07:25 PM

It is amazing ! Do I dare ask how long it took to make ? As for borders.. Black to finish it off is my choice also

Your quilt is so very beautiful. I'm sure you will determine what border will work best--you certainly know what you're doing :).

Rhonda 08-02-2009 07:58 PM

Now I don't want to hear any more about how you are intimidated to show your work as you are a newer quilter!!!
Girl you have more than earned your stars!!! That is one fantastic quilt!!!!
You have no reason to be ashamed of your work!!!! It is gorgeous!!
You deserve to pat yourself on the back for this one!!

I look forward to seeing it all done!

BlueChicken 08-02-2009 08:03 PM

That is absolutely stunning!

Just to be different for the border.... what about a nice wide strip of black, with a chain of coloured squares the size of the smaller squares in the body of the quilt.

2 Doods 08-03-2009 06:11 AM

WOW! That is very striking :!: LOVE IT! I like the idea of a black border too. You could use all the colors in the binding for a little touch.
Thanks for sharing!!!!

wvdek 08-03-2009 07:09 AM

3000 pieces!!! Yikes!!! Sure was worth every cut you made and seam you sewed. I think black border with jewel tones in the corners. Whatever you decide it is and will remain gorgeous.

Iluv2quilt 08-03-2009 07:16 AM

Thank you everyone for your kindness and wonderful compliments! You are all so encouraging!!!:D :D :D

I've decided on 6" black borders with 9-patch HSTs in the corners using the jewel tones adn black. Thank you all for your input, it really helped me!

I'll post a picture when I'm done.

How does this look? It's a little wonky up on the wall. I think Variegated thread and maybe some vines on the border. I'm not quite sure what to have quilted on the jewels - any ideas? I'm stumped with this one. Thanks for your help! :D

cutebuns 08-03-2009 10:26 AM

You did an awesome job on it, I am not sure what to quilt in it, but wow.

Ducky 08-03-2009 10:28 AM
