I just finished a quilt top, and I find that all I can see are my mistakes. Is that the way we all are? The top really looks good, and I am not fishing for compliments, but I am wondering. Do I ever get to a point where I don't see my mistakes right off and can look at the quilt immediately and appreciate it?

I see all my mistakes first too, so you are not alone there. I find that if I put away the quilt, then look at it again, I can admire the quilt itself and not necessarily the mistakes. And you may not be fishing, but I am biting, it is a very pretty quilt!!
You're wrong, all I can see is a purr fect quilt.
It looks absolutely lovely! I can't see any mistakes. I am not sure about the others but I know that I 'see' my mistakes no matter how little (as in millimetres) they may be because I know they are there! Sorry I wish I had better news!!
I am that way too I wish I could could just say wow I made that good job anna! but instead I say jeez cant you sew straight at all!
Great job ! I don't see any mistakes.
Purrfect pattern for that fabric and good choice of finishing colors. It's very pretty.
Great job, love the cat fabric!
I think your Quilt is marvelous. A friend of mine once said if it looks good from a galluping horse then it is perfect. Since then I don't see mistakes just perfection. I love your quilt. Hope you get to loving it soon. :)
Mistakes ... not at all ... it's Purrrrrrrrfect!
Mistakes......what?? you didn't mean to do it that way???? I always say I did it on purpose!!!! And I didn't see any of yours.....I was only looking very well, cause I think it is GREAT!!!!
I could never find my mistakes until after it was sewn together. I would make my then teenage daughter look at it and she never failed to find a block turned back wards or in the wrong spot. Nothing is perfect...especially my sewing! I think its very pretty.
I don't worry about mistakes anymore. If I like it, then it's good. Enjoy your quilt.
Stand back 3 feet and then look at it. Then it does not show the mistakes as much. And besides, you can always say that you plan to put at least one mistake in each quilt on purpose. Personally, I think your quilt looks great!
Mistakes??!! I thought there were just design alterations to create something unique.
Your quilt is lovely and I don't see anything wrong with it. |
I finally saw your "mistake" - if I hadn't been looking I probably would never have seen it. These things loom large in our brains because we know they are there - most people won't notice! It's a lovely little quilt, be proud of it!!!

I love your D9P kitty quilt. I don't see any mistakes but I think we are all very hyper-critical of our own work.
Mistakes that we make on our own are glaring to us but most of the time, no one else sees them unless we point them out. I don't know if we ever get to the point where we think our own stuff is good, we love everyone elses stuff but think our own work is not up to par. |
Okay, thanks for your comments. I am going to wait a few days before I do anything else with it. Taking it off my design wall, which is two feet from my sewing machine, will probably help too.
I really do like the quilt, but I just see those silly mistakes!! |
I don't see any mistakes!
No one is perfect but the Good Lord above. Just accept it and enjoy the beautiful quilt that you made.
Sorry didn't see any mistakes. I just saw a great quilt. Love the cat fabric. That would be a great quilt for my nephew. Thanks for the idea.
Beautiful quilt!
We always see our mistakes and isn't it wonderful? To craft something and know someone will love it, imperfections and all ... just like us! Gives you an understanding of the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Whether quilts or people, we all have "mistakes" and there is some one out there that thinks we are perfect just the way we are!
Can't find it...someone tell me where it is please?
I love it, you did a great job! I don't see any mistakes.
apparently my mother, a non quilter, can see mistakes immediately. when i send a pic, she emails back about the mistakes.
LOL Mine always look perfect if I stand back 6 feet and take off my glasses.
For those looking for "the mistake," I really don't think there is one. The mistakes I keep seeing are where points don't quite line up, even though I pinned them and was soooo sure I was lining them up.
Really cute.
Very cute quilt and I don't see any mistakes!
I see every one every time. Sometimes, I have to go back and just re-do (like last week)or it bugs the heck out of me. But I don't see them in other people's works.
That is so cute!!!

LOVE IT !!

LOL welcome to the world of those of us who always see each and every ity bity mistake we can possibly make. Eventually over time you will hopefully learn to be kinder to yourself. When I look at your pretty quilt I don't see any mistakes.

What mistakes? I don't see any. Love your quilt, especially the cat fabric.
Looks good
What mistakes...all I see is a beautiful work of art.
Personally.. I could tell you about EVERY off stitch I've ever accidentally made in just about every quilt I've ever made, but realize... you are looking at your quilts from the creators artistic eyes. The recipient of such a lovely quilt is just THRILLED that you thought enough of them to make them a quilt at all. They NEVER EVER see the mistakes.
I think no matter HOW LONG a person quilts they strive for "100% perfection"...which is just a non-reality. Each quilt is a learning experience and your skills keep getting better with each quilt. I think it's beautiful, and you picked great fabrics for the Disappearing Nine Patch. I actually have that EXACT same cat fabric I bought to surprise a feline lover friend of mine. Take a big deeeeeeeeeeeeep breath. You did a great job, and it looks SUPER NICE! Fons and Porter have this super funny rule. They call it the "40 MPH Rule). If you have made an error in your quilt go out and hang it on your front fence. Drive by at 40 mph. If you can't spot the quilt flaw when you drive by... then you DON'T need to fix it...LOLOL |
Well, I didn't see any mistakes, just a beautiful quilt. ;)
