Just keep quilting, just keep quilting...

My 11 year old daughter said she wanted a heavily quilted quilt - well she is getting it, but not until she is getting married! I've completed hand quilting 61 blocks (out of 99 total blocks), 2/3 of the inner border, and 2/3 of the outer border. It is taking forever but I am not starting another project until this one is done. Just wanted to share the partially complete quilt. It is a snowball/9 square pattern. The backing is sage green. The entire double sized quilt is glue basted.

nicely done

KenmoreGal2 01-15-2016 12:20 PM

Oh my gosh - you are doing that by hand?? I hope your daughter sees how much you love her to do this. It's beautiful but looks like so much work.

You go, ma'am. That would take me until she was a grandmother and possibly a great grandmother. A hand quilter told me the other day that she doesn't like quilting through the spray basting. Do you find a lot of pull or drag on the needle?

KARENBOUTQUILTIN 01-15-2016 12:34 PM

She will treasure it. It is beautiful.

Jingle 01-15-2016 12:50 PM

Very pretty. Good for you to do this.

Watson 01-15-2016 01:13 PM

Wow. That's breathtaking. Definitely a labour of love.

Watson

That will be treasured - such attention to detail! Bravo!

I use Elmer's washable school glue and dry heat set it. There is no drag or anything. Sometimes I have to go through a little thickness of glue, but it isn't as bad as going through seams. I stab stick so that makes a difference for me.

Yes - all hand quilted. I've gone through 1.5 spools of thread so far.

Oh my, that is one beautiful quilt. The quilting is just superb! I love to hand quilt, but I'm working on my sewing machines now. too much for an old lady. LOL.. I just wonder how long you have been quilting this? It is so fun to sit and look at your perfect quilting.

Sharonquilts 01-15-2016 01:41 PM

Bless you! No way could I do all of that by hand. You are amazing.

I've been working on it for a year now - mostly on weekends and occasionally in the evenings. I can do about a square in two hours if I set and persevere.

Very nicely done making her such a beautiful quilt especially quilting it by hand but I hope her future husband will want to sleep in a double bed! :)

absolutely stunning... you obviously are dedicated to it. I don't think I would have the patience and I definitely wouldn't have the time... kudos to you.

sinceresissy 01-16-2016 05:07 AM

Amazing. I am in awe.

quilterpurpledog 01-16-2016 05:24 AM

What a wonderful work of love! Beautifully done. I can appreciate your commitment to finish the quilt. It will be a real treasure for sure. I was happy to see your comments about Elmer's glue on a piece that is being hand quilted. I use that method for machine work and really like it but I did wonder about hand quilting with it. Now, I know.

Homespun 01-16-2016 05:27 AM

Oh, my, so beautiful...

ksdot417 01-16-2016 05:36 AM

Your quilt is just beautiful. Definitely something she will cherish.

skypony 01-16-2016 05:45 AM

WOW that is beautiful. I'm afraid to try glue basting. What if I try to move it and it's just stuck there? However, what a wonderful job you did for your daughter.

Michellesews 01-16-2016 06:44 AM

So much love!

I had that thought as well, but I'm sure it is a heirloom no matter what happens.
