Your rag quilt is gorgeous....love your colors!

Judyth 02-09-2012 05:57 AM

What type of fabric did you use and is it 2 layers or 3. I made a flannel baby quilt using 3 layers of flannel and had a real hard time on my sewing machine, until I bought a different type pressure foot. Your's is beautiful and I would like to try another one. I'm just now doing the clipping. That's taking as long as the quilting almost.

love it, keep it, Barb

Love the quilt! Especially like the way you have a border effect!

ChildoftheUniverse 02-09-2012 06:56 AM

Oh I want to snuggle right now in the quilt. Very nice and I like the colors very much.

Lorettan 02-09-2012 07:33 AM

thank you for all your great comments! i love reading them!

Lorettan 02-09-2012 07:58 AM

i forgot to add...i use the UHU brand washable glue stick too when i put the three layers together for each square. just a dab in the middle. it will wash out when you wash the quilt. it just helps with keeping the layers together and avoid alot of shifting when your sewing.

sewphie 02-09-2012 08:26 AM

I love your quilt and especially the way you bordered it.I have made a few of these but never had a finishing border on them.Thank you for sharing you quilt, and I hope you don't mind if I use your idea for the border on the next ones I may make.

deeremom 02-09-2012 08:32 AM

That is a very nice quilt. Was curious as to what kind of fabric you used? Flannel, 100% cotton or what? I wish I had the talent that all of you have. Still just a novice at this quilting stuff. How many layers of fabric did you use? Since it is just squares I think I might give it a shot and make one.

thank you for sharing

newbee3 02-09-2012 08:34 AM

how big are your squares?? and what kind of fabric did you use??

Homemother 02-10-2012 03:49 AM

You did a beautiful job on this quilt! Love the fabrics/colors you chose. The quilt begs to be cuddled in with those warm colors and soft edges! Gosh....I'd want to keep it too.

Very nice!

deedum 02-10-2012 04:35 AM

question on rag quilt

I cut my squares last nite, using 8" squares which I think was plenty big. Next time I am going smaller. My question is, the backing do you use cotton? or flannel? Thanks for any info.

Blinkokr 02-10-2012 04:40 AM

WOW - Just beautiful, great job and thanks for sharing
Have a Blessed day
Ellen

on this particular quilt, i used cotton muslin. i think the next one i will use a flannel backing. muslin is very cost effective and still looks nice as a backing.

Whoopie 02-10-2012 05:17 AM

How did you do that? The ragged part looks bigger than the center of the block.

not sure what you mean, but i use 1/2 inch seams throughout the entire quilt.

Lorettan 02-10-2012 05:37 AM

ladies...i just wanted to add....keep in mind when your planning the size of your squares, the the "finished" size will be smaller than the size you originally cut them once you take a 1/2 inch seam on all four sides. so, for my blocks, i cut them 6 inch squared, but once i sew them together, they finished at about 5 inches. now, that varies a little because i may not always have a perfect 1/2 seam all the time. but that's the beauty of these quilts. easy to hide all the little "ooppss" along the way.

sparkys_mom 02-10-2012 07:01 AM

I'm in the process of making my first rag quilt. I hope it looks half as great as yours. :)

mjhaess 02-10-2012 07:04 AM

wildyard 02-10-2012 10:08 AM

What are rag scissors? Do you just mean the spring loaded kind or is there some special scissors to make cutting those edges easier? I love the look but cannot do the clipping.

butterflies5518 02-10-2012 11:55 AM

Looks like a keeper to me!

javin22 02-10-2012 12:13 PM

Ooo I really love the colors. Beautiful Job!! I need to finish clipping the edges on a kings size one that is still in my sewing room.
