thank you all for your kind words! i've said this before...but when i sit down to "escape"....i don't want to do something thats gonna give me more of a nervous breakdown. and traditional pieceing did just that. i always admire the beautiful pieced quilts i see on here, but i dont think regular pieceing is for me. this is just so relaxing to do. and you dont have to worry too much about total precision, although im a perfectionist, so i really try to pay attention.
but little mistakes will be hidden in raggies. as you do more and more, you start to learn little tips and tricks along the way, then they start coming out better and better. this pattern is my favorite. didn't even know what the name of it was, just saw it in a magazine and thought...now i could use that pattern in a rag quilt! getting ready to finish a table topper and i will be sure to post pics. |
Love your quilt...I have been saving flannel for several years to make one....Due tell how do you do it...size of sq...batting, backing, seam width????????? I will be watching for your directions.....Thanks so very much. Carol (Nana)

Beautiful. how large are your squares? Did you use batting, flannel, fleece in the center? I love the all white back. How large is it overall and if you don't mind me asking, why the 1/2 squares around it. I love it, just have never seen one like that.

ok, i will try and answer all the questions...if i leave anything out, please let me know!
this was made with all cottons and muslin for the back. i use cotton batting squares in the middle. i always cut my batting about 2 inches smaller than my squares (or rectangles). I have only used 6 inch squares because that's the width of my ruler and it just makes it easier. this is the first quilt where i use rectangles along the edge, and i really like it! it frames the quilt i think. My seams are always 1/2 inch. i use rag scissors from Fons and Porter to clip all the seams and i wash it about two times to start the "ragging". i sew all the sqares in a row, then sew the rows together taking care to match up your seams first. after the whole thing is sewn together, i do a final 1/2 inch around the entire edge. you make your rectangles the same way you do your squares. in this case, i think they measured 4 x 6. i did use a batting strip in between the rectangle layers, however i think i will leave that out the next time. |
Beautiful!!

Absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't want to part with it either.

Wow, that is beautiful!!! Yep, it would be hard to let that one go! I got the material to make two of them, just need to find the time.
|
Beautiful rich tones! I'm so used to doing 10" squares initially, that I never even entertained the idea of smaller and an around the world pattern. Very nice.
