After spending so much time on projects for others, I decided to take some time to do something for ME. I have had some fabric for a long time that I have been dying to use, and recently picked up a book about making fabulous quilts with one fabric. The two kind of clicked together for me, so away I went! Here are a few pictures of the WIP.

This is the square before I cut it up and put it back together again.

This is what the blocks look like together without any sashing.... I like it, but think it is a bit too busy this way.

Here is where I need your help, please. What fabric do I use for sashing? One of these pictured, ALL of them, NONE of them? EEEK!!!

I love this green!

This is a beautiful rich, deep red/burgandy.

The red and green are mild blenders, but this blue is true.

I vote for the Red!!
Love your squares.

cnolan 10-20-2009 07:45 PM

Thanks! My problem is, I love all three of the looks!

bebe 10-20-2009 07:56 PM

you can use the red for sashing and the other 2 for a border and binding

Tippy 10-20-2009 08:19 PM

I like the green the best.. for some reason the other two tend to take my eyes away from the blocks.

amma 10-20-2009 09:35 PM

I like the green for sashing, and I agree the other two would make pretty borders :D :D :D I love your blocks!!! :D :D :D

katier825 10-21-2009 01:02 AM

I think the red makes the squares pop! Nice job! :)

Quilt4u 10-21-2009 01:18 AM

Love them. The Green tones them down. I loose the blocks on the red. And the blue makes them Pop.

ranger 10-21-2009 01:53 AM

I like the blue. Nice fabric.

sdparent 10-21-2009 03:11 AM

I love the red!

redrummy 10-21-2009 07:05 AM

I vote for green
Love your squares

gramqlts 10-21-2009 07:19 AM

Green gets my vote! Agree on red and blue for sashing. Blocks turned out great tho!!!

sewnsewer2 10-21-2009 07:24 AM

I like the red but you can't go wrong with any of them. And yes, you should do sashing because the fabric is very busy.

Esqmommy 10-21-2009 07:28 AM

Red...but if you have some, you might want to go for that cream/yellow that's in the squares. I think a muted dotty fabric would look cute in that creamy yellow color...or even a basket weave type fabric...

LucyInTheSky 10-21-2009 08:01 AM

I love the green most, then the red. I like the blue, but it doesn't seem to match as well with the fabrics

MadQuilter 10-21-2009 08:18 AM

Oh - use the red. I think the green is too muted and the blue is too bright. The red is PERFECT.

cnolan 10-21-2009 08:53 AM

OK... here is another idea. What if I use all three fabrics, in diagonal stripes? For instance, sash the top left corner block with blue, then the block below it, and the one to the right of it in green. Next, the 3rd from the left on the top row, the 2nd from the left on the 2nd row down, and the left corner block on the 3rd row down would all be sashed in red. Thus, the 4th on top, 3rd on 2nd row, 2nd on 3rd row, and first block on left of 4th row down would all be sashed in blue. The pattern would continue this way.

I would put a border of each color around the edges (with strips of the uncut fabric top and bottom mixed in). Does this make sense, and if so, what do you think?

dakotamaid 10-21-2009 09:03 AM

I agree with tippy, the green seems to allow the blocks to shine.

justme 10-21-2009 09:17 AM

I like ESQMommy's idea, when I first looked at them I thought a cream or a yellow... then bring your other colors in as a border... just my thoughts.

I love your blocks.

nellebelles 10-21-2009 09:30 AM

I love the idea of the blue, but I think the blue in the photos is too bright. Do you have any fabric the same color of blue that is in the background or the edges of the blocks? If you do, I think that would compliment very well. I also like the idea of cream/yellow. If you don't have any of those, I think the green is the best choice of all. I, too, like the idea of using the other colors in the borders. I think doing stripes might add to the busy-ness of the blocks, instead of toning them down a little bit.
I love the way you put the blocks together. And what cute fabric to start with!!! Good job! :D

Debbie1 10-21-2009 10:20 AM

I agree that the blue and red seem to draw your eyes away from the blocks. I like all the colors, but I think I would go with the green and use the other colors for borders! Your blocks are great by the way!

Jeannie 10-21-2009 10:27 AM

Red makes it pop!

Kara 10-21-2009 11:27 AM

I love all three. This is tough!!

Maybe sash with one, and borders of the other two.

Great job! Can't wait to see more!

littlehud 10-21-2009 07:04 PM

The green in definitely my favorite.

poopsie 10-22-2009 09:44 AM

did you try a cream color/

Nursesews 10-22-2009 11:32 AM

They all look good but the green caught my eye and made the quilt quieter. :D JMHO

CajunQuilter2 10-22-2009 11:49 AM

I like red first then green, not too much the blue for me. But I agree with esqmommy, try cream/yellow/gold and see how that does. Good luck with whatever you choose. Can't wait to see the pictures :) :)

SandyMac 10-22-2009 12:06 PM

Really love the red makes it pop rirht out :D

lass 10-22-2009 12:37 PM

I like the green. It serves to separate the blocks and rest your eyes from their busyness. Use the others for borders/backing/cornerstones.

msoop 10-22-2009 01:48 PM

I vote for red, too. It makes the blocks pop!! Second choice, green. Blue did nothing for me.

joeyoz 10-22-2009 02:18 PM

Have you considered a gold sashing? If not, I like the red.

K.P. 10-22-2009 09:06 PM

How about something in the gold/yellow color in the blocks and use the darker colors for borders...

tarbender30 10-23-2009 06:49 AM

Wonderful project.
Have you thought about a lite yellow, maybe???
Just a thought

sawsan 10-23-2009 09:48 AM

green to me

Hunnib 10-23-2009 09:54 AM

I vote for red but it might be because I just signed up for the Secret Santa Swap and hve Christmas on my mind, lol!

Nan C 10-23-2009 02:35 PM

I like the green. Let us know what you decide. :)

earthwalker 10-23-2009 03:49 PM

I like the idea of cream/gold for sashing and then use the red, green and blue for borders....anyway I love the fabric and the colours....Please can we see some more pics.

MollieSue 10-23-2009 04:30 PM

I vote for the green!! :D I think the green allows the blocks to shine more.
