Leftovers

5 Attachment(s)
I went to a class many years ago where the teacher wanted us to bring pieced tops to discuss how they should be quilted. I didn't have one so I threw a bunch of leftover pieces of fabric together at the last minute just so I could have something to share with the rest of the class.

This is how UFOs are made. It has been sitting on a shelf ever since then. I finally got around to quilting it. This is the first time that I have done an edge to edge design... a Baptist fan. I think the border design is kinda cool, and the backing fabric is delicious.

Can't believe you "just threw" this together. It is very pretty.

joyce888 08-09-2015 04:57 AM

Everything about this is gorgeous! And the quilting is a compliment to the quilt.

Your Baptist fan is a great addition to the top you made. You have a very effective whole. I really like your borders as well.

Did you quilt it on a long arm or a DSM? Did you mark it or do you have a program to do it? It is lovely!!

Thank you! - I quilted it on an HQ 16 sit-down midarm (the older version of the HQ Sweet 16). I used blue washout markers to mark the patterns.

First of all, can't believe you just threw that together and then let it languish on a shelf! It's a gorgeous quilt, made even more so by the quilting.

what a great quilt to be thrown together. I was expecting scraps, not a proper quilt. came out great!!!

ckcowl 08-09-2015 09:36 AM

Lovely. The Baptist Dan quilting is perfect for it. :)

ManiacQuilter2 08-09-2015 10:30 AM

Exactly what I was thinking!

DOTTYMO 08-09-2015 10:56 PM

I thought it was a lap quilt thrown together. I was amazed at the size and your quilting in the final photo. Congratulations on a wonderful combo.
P.S. is each row done separately in the baptist fan pattern or am I missing a flow link.

I don't really understand your question. I thought all Baptist fans were done in rows. I marked my rows in opposite directions to add "movement" to the design. Does that answer your question?

twinkie 08-10-2015 02:47 AM

For a collection of leftovers that was thrown together this is beautiful.

rootyr 08-10-2015 03:40 AM

That is lovely!

Taughtby Grandma 08-10-2015 04:38 AM

Very pretty quilt and great quilting.

carolynjo 08-10-2015 04:57 AM

Nice job. The curving fan shape of the Baptist fans is a great contrast to the geometric shapes used to construct the top.

Pete 08-10-2015 06:04 AM

If I just "threw this together" it would immediately get thrown in the trash bin. Boy are you talented! Beautiful quilt and quilting.
