log cabin: barn raising set
4 Attachment(s)
hi!
long before i ever knew how to sew i loved log cabin quilts. so finally after 20 years of sewing and quilting i attacked the hoard and made the quilt i had dreamed about. it is full of fabrics from my life and my daughter's life: dresses, other quilts made for ourselves and others, fabric purchased at places that in retrospect marked times in my life, and two bought just for this project (the borders). i am pleased with it, maybe more so with any other i have made. it is completed quilt number 8, and a treasure. back, all fabric made into pyjamas over the years :) block detail label with name. i always name the quilts. i dunno....seems like a fitting conclusion :) aileen |

wonderful quilt of memories

What a fun quilt! Scrappy log cabins are the best! Cute fabric piece of the little kids all in a row!
Love it! I agree with you that log cabin quilts are the best. Yours has the advantage of being made with fabric that has meaning for you and your daughter--what a family heirloom! In that close up picture, I see a fabric that I have, too! What a great way to save pieces of those fabrics for yourself. I may have to put this idea on my to-do list. Beautiful job.

Love your log cabin!
Beautiful! Loved your story and quilt!
You'll never look at the quilt without a memory coming to life. Beautiful.
Love the colors!
Did you paper-piece this quilt? I've only made one log cabin, a child's quilt, but yours with so many scraps is especially interesting. I really want to do what you did. All of those colors make it kind of dance. Have not seen one with the scrappy look and I like it. I have tons of scraps and I can't think of a better use for them, except maybe a postage stamp quilt. Now that's ambitious.

That is a very nice log cabin quilt.
Love your ideas, beautifully executed!
very nice.......
Wow! Impressive. And what a great story! Years and years of memories, contemplation, and love ... just super. Thank you.
Absolutely GORGEOUS!!! :) :) :) I LOVE the scrappy back and such a beautiful story your quilt tells! :) :) :) And. . . I love, love, LOVE the cross-stitched label! I'm so bad at remembering to put labels on my quilts, but THIS is such a GREAT idea - thank you for the inspiration!!! :)
That is beautiful. Love the back
Quilty Hugs and Blessings to you...Way to go  It truly is a labor of love and will surely be cherished for many tears to come. Bravo!!
Great log cabin, and the story of the fabrics makes it that much better! It really came out beautiful! I see more log cabins in your future.
beautiful quilt, I think I may love the label most of all!
no i didn't paper piece it. the strips are 1.5 inches and you just keep adding them on. i followed the instructions in the fons and porter quilter's complete guide.
i just got obsessed and did it. it took a LOT of hours, but i just kept going. i did the blocks in 4 groups, using the scrap bits from that pile to fill in blanks in the new blocks to make sure there was a random element in each block. the one thing i could have spent more time on was the final layout. there are a couple of places where two fabrics butt up against each other and i kind of wanted to avoid that. i could have tooled and fooled with it, but i really wanted to sleep under it. the aside is that i made it to match my new bedroom in the house we moved into in september. i've never finished a quilt in such a short amount of time, but i seriously went at it. (i need a job....really.) thank you so much. so nice to have a place to share it :) aileen |

Exactly! Couldn't have said it better.
I've also have wanted to make a scrappy log cabin quilt with the bits and pieces I've saved from quilts I've made over the years and seeing your beautiful one has given me the push I need. Don't have fabrics from pjs for backing but do have several big pieces bought in places that have special meaning to me. May in Jersey |
I love it!
A true beauty and a treasure~! Log cabin is one that I am wanting to do for myself also. Yours just made me want to do it all the more.
