they look so pretty. we have them around here too but usually they fly off when you get near.

Don't you just love 'em! We have a flock of 3 hens and 8 juveniles that show up every eveing at dusk to fly up into one of our 150 year old maples for the night. They are so funny - The maple is down hill a bit from the house, and one will get a running start down hill before she flaps her wings and heads for the lower branch on the tree. Then she waddles up that branch, flaps up to a higher branch and repeats until she finds the branch she wants to settle down on for the night. I say she, because it's always one of the hens that starts this parade. After the juveniles start flying up, they squabble a bit about who gets to stay on which branch. I was delighted that the entire flock made it through the night of Tropical Storm Irene - I was as worried about them as I was about our power going out!

Better start fattening one of them up - Thanksgivings' comin' up.
