Okay, for all of you who notice right away, I made the log cabin blocks backwards. The darks should be where the lights are. I never use patterns, my own fault. I was almost done 12 of the 24 blocks when I noticed and was sick about it. I didn't want to toss them and also meant repurchasing fabrics. Called my friend to whine about it and she said keep going, it will be fine. Thanks Freeda !!
This quilt is for my daughter-in-law, a birthday gift. The ladies at the quilt shop advised against the border print but she has primitive country décor in their home and thought this print made it more feminine. I made my son a quilt for Christmas but gave it to him in July and felt guilty that it was just for him and not her. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-134449-1.htm My father isn't doing well and couldn't wait since it has some of his shirts in it.
It's my second quilt trying FM. I SID around the lights, used a stencil in the middle, meandered on the darks, made curlys in the light, and stitched straight lines in the border (wanted to do big leaves but got scared..LOL). Also used the same backing and similar layout (barn raising) as my son's so they kinda go together. It's far from perfect but I'm happy with it and Lynne will love it and appreciate that I made it for her.

Great job. So what if you switched "day" and "night" Great quilting.

Gorgeous work. Your friend advised you correctly. There is certainly no hard and fast rule about the direction of log cabins. also, there is not a wrong time to give to the people we care about. Best wishes to your father.

sewsewquilter 09-03-2011 10:04 AM

Your FMQ looks great!!! The border works wonderfully the the blocks. If you had not said anything I would have never known your logs were backwards. Who cares. :-) The quilt is beautiful. I really like it.

girliegirl 09-03-2011 10:05 AM

Exactly! One side dark, one side light, it matters which is which? I missed that completely - haven't seen any mention of that in my <largish> collection of quilt books & magazines ;)

Wonderful quilt, great quilting!

running1 09-03-2011 10:44 AM

I think the border makes the quilt. Great job.

luv-e 09-03-2011 10:56 AM

I totally agree with everyone else!!!

mtnative 09-03-2011 10:57 AM

I must be backwards because I don't see what is backwards. It is beautiful.

conniescretions 09-03-2011 10:58 AM

I think it is beautiful. Great job

LyraJean 09-03-2011 11:01 AM

I didn't know there was a right and a wrong way to do it. I think it looks great. I think the border looks awesome. You should show a pic of the finished quilt to the ladies in the quilt shop. I say if the person who is receiving the quilt loves it then it's not wrong.

trolleystation 09-03-2011 11:03 AM

That was a great mistake. I love your quilt.

GGinMcKinney 09-03-2011 11:10 AM

Gorgeous! Prayers for your Father.
DIL will love the quilt. The fabrics are wonderful and the quilting, oh, my, words escape me.
Beautiful and so lovingly made!!!

Lori S 09-03-2011 11:14 AM

Thank you everyone !!! I took it to the LQS and showed it finished. They said they liked it, they are very nice there. And sometimes it's nice to hear their truthful opinion and not just say yeah to make a sale. My opinion was just different keeping in mind who it was for. :D

blueangel 09-03-2011 11:26 AM

It's gorgeous

aneternalpoet 09-03-2011 11:26 AM

umm..umm.. your quilt is GORGEOUS - and you think that the darks, and lights got turned wrong? Thinking not... this is so pretty.

LLWinston44 09-03-2011 11:50 AM

I love them both!! I didn't even know there was a "right" way for LC!!!

Lilrain 09-03-2011 11:54 AM

Beautiful quilt. I don't think you did it wrong. I have made log cabin quilts from patterns in books and they call for them both ways. And I kept making them wrong and ended up with two quilts

Vat 09-03-2011 12:03 PM

Been doing log cabin blocks for several and don't understand what you mean about them being backward. Could you explain??
