Make less white

Does that make since ?

DebraK 07-04-2012 11:54 PM

since what? better without

sewbeadit 07-04-2012 11:56 PM

I like both ways. Funny how we are all different.

jansquiltn 07-05-2012 12:26 AM

Maybe you would like it better if you couched some yarn on top or used colored thread when quilted. I personally like it without the circles.

alfosa421 07-05-2012 02:15 AM

Don't put the circles in-maybe you could quilt with a variegated thread to tie it all in-it certainly is very bright-can't wait to see the finish-Best stitches

That does make sense! You are correct that there is too much white. I would make the border smaller. Then I would add 2 other borders. Here is a picture from my Quilt Pro program.

Also I agree that you should use colored thread when quilting the white blocks

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 07-05-2012 03:42 AM

I don't care for the circles. it's too busy. How about just a small red border around the white.

Julie in NM 07-05-2012 03:45 AM

Now don't hit me but I would take it apart and make for LC blocks. Your fab is gorgeous. I like white in quilts too but just a little too much here.

piepatch 07-05-2012 03:47 AM

I like Arleners version, but whatever you do, I would leave off the circles.

Yes that is what I was thinking too.

gin7 07-05-2012 04:20 AM

i like top pic.

susiequilt 07-05-2012 04:26 AM

If you mean the white is too bright you could tea dye the block to tone it down.

Cybrarian 07-05-2012 04:35 AM

I really like Arlene's solution, IMHO the circles look contrived. Another possibility either with the top pic or Arlene's solution would be to use a little smaller circle as the "head" of a flower appliqué in the white squares. Love your color choices and the white, maybe a little less of it, really makes them pop.

debcavan 07-05-2012 04:39 AM

I like the addition. White is a "take over" color. I have a hard time working with it and rarely do.

bearisgray 07-05-2012 04:46 AM

I agree with the 'take it apart' person - perhaps replace the white with a tone on tone green similar to one of the lighter greens in the log cabin blocks.

The fabrics in the log cabin blocks look nice together.

Blinkokr 07-05-2012 04:50 AM

Looks good wold add some more color with the board, great job and thank you for sharing
Have a Blessed day

cjackaitlin 07-05-2012 04:51 AM

I also like Arleners idea. It is very pretty, but not with the circles. Thanks for sharing.

mighty 07-05-2012 05:12 AM

I like it best without the circles.

Diane007 07-05-2012 05:29 AM

Question you are saying too much white.
I would say minus the circles also.
But if you are feeling the white is in your face
Tea stain it.

personally I like the white

Greenheron 07-05-2012 05:35 AM

Circles are fun. Move them around to make asymmetrical arrangement . Overlap some on the cabin blocks. Make small groups or lines of circles. Cut a few in half! Make some smaller sizes. I don't have the ability to make a picture but I encourage you to experiment.

Greenheron 07-05-2012 08:48 AM

sawsan, another idea? Use that white border by stitching on a waving stem border or waving ric-rac. Cut the circles smaller and use some of them as flowers, add a few leaves. The circles could also be cut into wedges to make cockscomb-like flowers.

mom-6 07-05-2012 08:54 AM

I'm with you on it being too much white. Maybe do really neat stitching with bright colored thread on the large white blocks?

I also like Arlene's suggestion of the bright border dividing the wide white border into smaller sections.

The circles 'help' in one sense, but I really don't care for them on this particular design.

judy363905 07-05-2012 09:08 AM

This was also my thoughts...after all you already have the circles made...Take a chance and try using them in the center area. I also like the narrow print border ideas. Have fun with it above all... :)

It depends on how you are going to quilt it. The white would look lovely with a intricate design done in varigated thread. I sometimes intentionally leave "plain" sections if I want to showcase a feathered wreath design in them.

fmhall2 07-05-2012 10:52 AM

I think the circles add a lot to it, and I like them together with the log cabin.

Arleners is right -- that little border of the darker fabric will make all the difference. That, and quilting with a variegated thread using some of the colors in the quilt. Please post when you're done - can't wait to see it finished! Beautiful blocks!

That's exactly what I was thinking. I love what you've already got going & think a narrow inner border would really make those blocks shine. I'm looking forward to seeing this beauty all done!!!

That is one spectacular quilt! I love it!

whinnytoo 07-06-2012 03:36 AM

what is the white fabric you are using???? would you mind telling me where you found it? I think its lovely and I love quilts with lots of white

glorcour 07-06-2012 04:21 AM

I think you need some darker border and lose the dots.

Latrinka 07-06-2012 04:42 AM

I think I would add another color border, and then quilt with colored thread as someone else mentioned. Very pretty though!

southernmema 07-06-2012 04:45 AM

Without circles....and add a border.

What she said.

jamsbuying 07-06-2012 06:46 AM

I like the border idea of Arlene's...

Pat75 07-06-2012 07:00 AM

What about a vine with flowers around the edge? You could use the colors in the log cabin and machine applique them. The circles just do not improve the design.

I like this idea, or the smaller border design sent in. Are they yoyos? They just don't balance well in your pic of them around the blocks. IMHO. Lynn

Friday1961 07-06-2012 07:20 AM

Better without, I agree. Nice clean colorful lines without, I think.

solstice3 07-06-2012 08:48 AM

As a rule I love white and can't get enough. However, I would make the white border smaller and put another border to frame it. I would not do the yoyo's.

I agree with Arleners. Her prototype is much more pleasing to the eye. IMHO.
