Remember my WIP "Starstruck" from a few weeks ago - well it's now finished!
All the free motion done on my Janome 6600 without marking - I can't tell you how pleased I am with the result. The quilting has taken just under 3 weeks to finish, because I only did a couple of hours at a stretch.
Thanks for looking!

I have seen this (not quite finished) in real life and have to say that the pics do not do it justice! K your quilting is stunning, and to think you wrsetled this monster through the throat of your Janome! Who needs a Long Arm, eh?

DebraK 09-01-2010 07:35 AM

Impressive feat ;-)

JudyG 09-01-2010 07:37 AM

Fabulous quilting. If you ever get tired of it, it could have a home at my place. Blue/white/stars - couldn't be more perfect.

I am very impressed with your fmq. I wish I could get a tablerunner to look at good, let alone a monster quilt.

mytwopals 09-01-2010 07:40 AM

Very nice. And nice job on the FMQ, too.

Oh myyyyy....it's gorgeous! Congratulations on a great job!!

King's Daughter 09-01-2010 08:36 AM

Oh, how beautiful! This gives me great hope for what I might be able to do some day with my Elna 7300, which is about the same as the Janome 6600. But I will need lots and lots more practice.

Katrine 09-01-2010 08:44 AM

Oh thank you all so much for wonderful comments - I have to admit when I making the sandwich I did wonder if I had bitten off too much.
I should have said "my 6600 and I" did it, because I bought this machine specifically to be able to do my own quilting - I think the 6600 is a great machine!
I dont think I could have done an "all over" fmq with the weight, but if you look, it is literally one block at a time. So once you have puddled the quilt around the quilting area - forget about the rest of it, just concentrate on one block at a time. I worked a quarter of the quilt from the middle at a time.
And yes I do "practise" alot, on scrap sandwiches, and pencil and paper too!

Thank you! Quilters Dream Blend 70/30 - I use mostly their products. Dream Blend is great, you can quilt up to 12" apart or closely, and it remains soft. Shrinkage is nil.

marytoddliz 09-01-2010 08:58 AM

It is very pretty, I am amazed that you did that quilting all by hand, I can't get my SID quilting to look that good!

azwendyg 09-01-2010 09:02 AM

Great job on the FMQ!!! And the quilt is just beautiful!

No, wasn't by hand - would have taken me about 10 years or more. Was on a Janome!

scrappycats 09-01-2010 09:08 AM

NewYearsOld 09-01-2010 09:18 AM

Beautiful Job! Love the Feathers! I do most of my FMQ on a Viking Lilly 550. I can't master feathers yet! Well, better go get busy! I have three large Lap quilts to quilt for Sept 18 Quilt Show. Thanks for sharing!

Get the book "Hooked on Feathers" by Sally Terry - that's where they come from! And it is an easy method!

So beautiful! I saw this when you posted weeks ago and I'm so glad to see the finished product!

Your pups are so cute! I also have a Yorkshire terrier, my "monster" Yorkie Tucker. He's the opposite of a teacup! He's adorable, but quite hefty.

leaha 09-01-2010 10:35 AM

Thank you Molly.
Our Yorkies are not teacups, but quite small at just 3kg each.
But "monster" personalities
