My mom passed away last year after a very good life of 91 years...as a process of healing I took on the project of making a memory quilt for both my sister and my brother. The quilt below if for my brother. I spent a great deal of time on treating the fabrics and making it possible to use my computer t print scanned pictures. I also made background fabrics in a collage style that I also used. Just thought I'd share!

What a wonderful quilt!!! Your pieced sections between the photos are so complimentary to your photo story. I've had something like this in mind for old photos for some time. You've just given me inspiration for design. Thanks for sharing.

Very beautiful! And it will be a wonderful keepsake for the family to treasure always.
A few months after my mother passed away, I received a package in the mail, and when I opened it, I started to cry because I recognized all the fabric in the squares. My father made comforters for my sister, brother and me from some of Mom's clothes. My mother's mother also did some embroidery squares for them, and my mother's father helped knot it. I will treasure it always as I'm sure this family will treasure their. |
What a wonderful memory quilt. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful Quilt! Thanks for sharing.

That is just beautiful and should be treasured by your brother.........

Thank you all for your kind comments! These quilts were a labor of love and the odd little extras just sort of happened. If my quilt gives ideas for your own project, then that's a great thing! One thing to keep in mind when sewing these, is that you must always keep them in subdued light. No matter how careful you are, no matter the quality of fabric and inks, they WILL FADE WITH TIME in sunlight. So I passed that information to my siblings.
|
What a loving memory of your Mom. Your brother will cherish this beautiful quilt. You are a wonderful sister to give your family such a heartfelt gift.
|
OH WOW...Great job....That is wonderful, can't wait to see the one you will make one for yourself

I'm so sorry for your loss. I definitely think your brother and sister will love them! My baby brother is getting married next July. I was thinking about doing a similar quilt with pictures of his fiance and him through the years. Is it fairly easy to print pictures and use them on your fabric?
