Oh my gosh, that is terrible.I also love the quilt. Sure hope it shows up. How sad, that someone feels that can"t make their own, and be proud to show it off.

beachlady 07-24-2010 04:39 AM

Beautiful quilt. Sorry someone took it. And I thought all people from South Dakota were nice....went to college in SD.

reach for the stars 2 07-24-2010 04:46 AM

That is so sad. It is such a beautiful quilt. I hope you find it.

Babs194068 07-24-2010 04:51 AM

Wow it is awesome. I can't believe someone would just pick it up and walk away. I guess I still have my rose colored glasses on.

I found two sites for lost/stolen quilts. You might want to post pictures there.

Hope it's OK to post these links.

Wow, you mean people actually steal other peoples quilts!!!
Boy, do I live in a bubble.

rosalia856 07-24-2010 07:22 AM

I had a friend who own a quilt shop and found a quilt top that she thinks the lady was going to see what it cost to have her husband quilt it. It was a sale day and the lady left it. My friend asked everyone who came in if it was theirs. After a year her and hubby decided to quilt it. After quilting it the hung it up in there shop. Yep, you guessed it . The owner of the quilt shop came in and asked about the quilt top.The rightful owner was found and she was happy with how it was quilted. That is how quilter should be. I pray that God will touch the heart of the person who walked off with it.

Joyce 07-24-2010 07:46 AM

Have you considered placing fliers with a picture of the quilt in the city where it was stolen?
Why not get a local newspaper to run a story including picture.
Was it on display at the quilt shop?

Blue Bell 07-24-2010 07:51 AM

I will keep my eyes open looking for it. You don't know where in the world it could end up.

pittsburgpam 07-24-2010 08:04 AM

So sorry that someone took your quilt. It's my opinion that someone who would do that, did it out of a sense of jealousy and entitlement. If someone really loved it and thought they could do that too, they would ask what the pattern was. On the other hand, if they didn't have the skill to make one, coupled with a sense of entitlement that THEY deserved to have such a quilt...

I hope that you will get it back.

texas granny 07-24-2010 09:40 AM

bob1414 I was on CL a bit ago and they have a place where you can post lost or stolen items have you posted there for your area.?

CanadianLoon 07-24-2010 10:15 AM

I can see why a weak minded person might steal this. It's absolutely gorgeous.

People will steal anything - our son went to Bible College and I told him right off the bat - just because people are in Bible College doesn't mean they won't steal or cheat and lie... sure enough one guy got his computer stolen...

Tweety2911 07-24-2010 01:24 PM

I sent up a prayer to the missing quilt fairy that yours would be found and returned to you. Good Luck. It is a beautiful piece.

jprusky 07-24-2010 04:16 PM

Oh my gosh. It's so beautiful. How could someone "inadvertently" take something like this.

pennylynne 07-24-2010 06:03 PM

That is a really nice quilt and I truly hope you do get it back and the thief gets caught. Quite sad that someone has stolen it.

Annz 07-24-2010 06:31 PM

Wow!! That is terrible. I hope you find it and the person who walked off with it. How dispicable.

JoanneS 07-24-2010 07:11 PM

I would be heart broken. I hope somebody sees it.

I left a bag on a plane in 2001 with a lap quilt that needed mending - I originally gave it to my DD for Christmas in 1987; a queen size watercolor top with a heart that was to be a wedding gift; a small finished landscape wall quilt and my small tote of quilting do-hickies. I changed airplanes mid-trip, and didn't realize I had left the bag on the plane until I got to my final destination. Delta IMMEDIATELY checked that plane, and the bag was not on it. Someone must have found it, looked inside it, and decided it was theirs. I posted pictures several times, but no one has reported seeing either of the big quilts - I didn't have a picture of the landscape one.

Sheree from Chicago 07-24-2010 07:18 PM

Jaw drop - OMG Roberta I can't believe someone stole another quilters quilt! I'm really stunned and feel very badly for you. I would be devastated. Hugs

DebraK 07-24-2010 07:43 PM

people steal, and it always hurts. You can ask why, but you will never get a good answer. I'm sorry.

Toto's Mom 07-24-2010 08:14 PM

Roberta, it is a gorgeous piece of work. I am so sorry someone stole it.
I will give anyone anything I have, or make something especially for them, but I can't stand a thief. I can't feature ever wanting to do anything more than look at someone else's work. I come here for inspiration to improve on my own, and I am a long way from doing your quality work.
Like someone else said, I hope they are sick with guilt every time they look at it.

Jim's Gem 07-24-2010 08:32 PM

It's beautiful! Sure hope that you can get it back somehow!!!

daisey 07-24-2010 08:37 PM

JCL in FL 07-24-2010 09:00 PM

That is gorgeous, I'd be sick if I lost such a beauty. Hope you get it back.

annette1952 07-24-2010 09:09 PM

So sorry Roberta. That is a terrible thing when someone has to steal a quilt top. Hopefully someday it turns up back at the Quilt Shop because they can't take the guilt any longer. Some people though it just wouldn't bother.

zz-pd 07-25-2010 02:54 AM

Somebunny 07-25-2010 07:50 AM

My sincerest wishes for its safe return to you. How horrifying. I lay things down all the time looking for fabric.

Stitchwitch 07-25-2010 08:17 AM

It might take some effort but... post the pics along with info on every Craigslist out there....some one will see it. Good Luck.

grandme26 07-25-2010 09:45 AM

The quilt top is beautiful. I hope the person who took it sees this post and returns it to you. To bad there was a dishonest person in the store. Must not have been a quilter and wanted to pretend they were and took the quilt top to show off as their own. I cannot see a quilter taking the top as they know the work you put into it.

I feel like you do, I'll never believe that it was a real quilter, quilters help and pray and take care of people. A real quilter don't take away from or cheap or steal from people. A real quilter is about love and this was not an act of love. This was a act of selfishness.

Barbwquilter 07-25-2010 11:48 AM

Hello,
I am so sorry for your loss. What a terrible thing to have happen. My heart goes out to your and I sure hope you get you quilt top back.

IBQUILTIN 07-25-2010 05:01 PM

Hopefully, someone was on a "Shop Hop" of sorts, and couldn't be sure where they accidentally picked it up. I surely hope that is the case, because maybe, just maybe, it will be returned.
