Hi Everyone -

This is a picture of a quilt top I made that is MISSING.
It disappeared from the Dutch Rose Quilt Shop in Sioux Falls, SD approximately March of 2008. This is a top only - not quilted and is about 36 inches square. It is made of batiks. I had it in the store to try and find a back for it and laid it on a table.

If anyone sees this, please send me a private message.

This was one of my favorites, I can't replicate it and I'd love to have it back.
Thank you,
Roberta

How awful!!! And I thought quilters were honest people! I guess not all of them are. What a shame, I certainly hope you find it.

bearisgray 07-23-2010 06:58 AM

Sure hope you get it back.

Good think you had enough sense to take a photo of it while you still had it.

quiltsRfun 07-23-2010 07:00 AM

You must be sick about this! I would be. The quilt is beautiful. Hopefully it will turn up.

I found two sites for lost/stolen quilts. You might want to post pictures there.

http://www.softexpressions.com/galle...olenquilt.html

Hope it's OK to post these links.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-23-2010 07:11 AM

That's really sad. I'm so sorry for you. Hard to believe but that happens everywhere I guess..........
I've seen websites that featured lost quilts and some have been recovered. Hope it works out for you.

littlehud 07-23-2010 07:11 AM

Beautiful top. That is horrible that it is missing though.

Just had another idea. Does your quilt shop have a list of long arm quilters? If so, maybe you could contact them to be on the lookout. Also check into posting pictures in the shop where it came up missing as well as other shops around town.

Already did that. Thanks for the idea, though :)

Ditter43 07-23-2010 07:27 AM

I can see why you loved it....I hope whoever took it feels guilt every time they look at it....... :?

Lori L 07-23-2010 07:29 AM

Wow....the only way I could even start to get past my anger over this issue would be......"I hope they really needed to have my quilt top"......but in the realm of life....just how necessary is it to steal a quilt top. No one will starve, not have roof over their head etc. Which says to me.....stupid, ignorant and without morals!!! I'm sorry you're going through this. Good luck in your search/recovery of your quilt top! Okay quilting police.....now's the time for you to come out and play!

M.E.H. 07-23-2010 09:07 AM

I can see why it would be a favorite. Good luck on your search.

smtp5 07-23-2010 09:08 AM

Beautiful! I hope you find it! Did they post pictures in the store?

I thought the very same thing. :(

franie 07-23-2010 09:18 AM

I love that quilt look and I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you found it. Why would someone do that? Makes me both angry and sad. I have that pattern I think--is that the Mexican Star or something like that?

Yes, mexican star. Worse things have happened to me so I take it in stride. I, too, hope whoever has it feels a twinge of guilt when they look at it.

laceybritt 07-23-2010 09:31 AM

Stolen from a quilt shop, amazing!!! It is beautiful and I hope someone feels guilt and returns it.
We passed around a card (large department) for funeral flowers for a coworker and someone stole the money from it. Some people are heartless.

I don't know how some people can live with themselves.......

Stealing money from a funeral card is way worse - unbelieveable.

I just went to the site you have here. I can't believe how many quilts are stolen..
My guild has a form on our site where you put all the information and a picture of the quilt.

kwiltkrazy 07-23-2010 10:20 AM

Hope you get it back. It is a beauty.

nativetexan 07-23-2010 10:25 AM

oh gosh, did you post a pic on missingquilts.com also? that might help.

Lucky Patsy's 07-23-2010 10:27 AM

I am so sorry and I hope you get it back. I can see why it is one for your favorites!

MinnieKat 07-23-2010 10:30 AM

Oh Roberta, that's beautiful. I feel so bad for you...sure hope somehow you can get it back.

I did the same thing once. I had brought a quilt into the shop to look for backing and walked out without it. I realized it on my way home and luckily it was still there when I called back to ask about it. I was in a panic!!

Same as me...........

cindyg 07-23-2010 10:33 AM

Oh, that is a beautiful quilt. I'd be upset even if it was an ugly quilt. I hope that it inadvertantly got fabric stacked on top of it and it was put in someone's bag and she just hasn't looked in her bag since she got it home. I'd hate to think that a quilter would steal. I know - I need to get my head out of the sand. I really hope you find it.

We all want to think that people are honest - but...........it's been gone for 2 years and I've just realized I could put messages out about it!!

Lynneander 07-23-2010 10:38 AM

It is so sad to think that someone would take your quilt top. The picture is beautiful and I can only imagine how stunning the piece is in person.

Hopefully a guilty conscience will lead to the return of your work. Best of luck.

Debbie1 07-23-2010 11:11 AM

I can't believe someone took this. It's gorgeous though and I hope you find it!

tcnmom 07-23-2010 11:56 AM

So sorry that you lost such a beautiful quilt. I have that pattern but haven't found the fabric I like I love the colors you used. Sometimes the pictures aren't the true colors, so would you tell me the colors that you used?

roseOfsharon 07-23-2010 11:58 AM

So sorry for your loss, it had become a part of you and to lose it is sad. Maybe somewhere out there someone will discover it for you.

I sure wish I had it back because I cannot recreate it.

I used dark "cool" browns and very pale aquas -NOT turquoise, but aqua (more green). I used a few different fabrics - all batiks of course. The only ones you could probably find these days would be the fabrics with the dots. The others were Island batiks and have not been reprinted. It's a really easy, fun pattern! You can have tons of fun with the colors - I reallly liked how mine turned out. I kind of did the opposite of what most people do and made mine with a dark background and light color focus fabric - most people go light background and dark focus fabrics. Good luck!

Eddie 07-23-2010 12:05 PM

It is a beautiful quilt, Roberta, and I hope it turns back up in your hands some day.

This really makes you wonder about the thought process of whoever took it. What were they thinking? They can't show it to anyone who is remotely interested in quilts, because that person may know that it has been stolen. It's like thieves that steal famous works of art - idiots because they can't sell it or show it to anyone to impress them.

Ms. Shawn 07-23-2010 12:06 PM

So pretty, I am so sorry that that happened to you  :-( :hunf:

wvdek 07-23-2010 01:18 PM

Wow, that really stinks. Amazing what people steal.

ranger 07-23-2010 02:29 PM

I hope you get it back. It sure is a beautiful quilt.

mollymct 07-23-2010 03:49 PM

That is unbelievable that someone would take your quilt!! It is so pretty. I hope that somehow it makes it's way back home to you!!

tcnmom 07-23-2010 04:53 PM

Thank you so much Bobbi for the colors that you used. The pictures look brown and gray or light blue. I like your idea of using a dark background. Oh my, now to the QS.:)
