Monkey see, Monkey do...............

will be the name of this quilt.
Somebody posted a similar quilt January 24th on this board. She said that the pattern was out of worldquilters magazin. Looking at it I figured it could be done with any size of snail trail blocks. Gladie was so nice to send me a 9 inch snail trail pattern for paper piecing. I did not "finish" the blocks, I only added three rounds of triangles. The biggest triangles I assembled seperately, that way it was much easier to add the tails (hand applique) and the heads (embroidery.com)it also was possible to put a triangle of background fabric under the chin of the monkeys. Then I joined the blocks on point as you can see on the picture. The finished size is 74" x 65 " I love it and I think it also could be done with frogs.........without tails of course:-) Now it will have to wait for quilting till my Horizon is back from repair. Thanks for looking Granny |
That is great! Your color placement is just perfect and I can imagine what a lot of concentration it took to make the monkeys. Very inspirational.

I love this quilt so much, you did an amazing job. When it was posted in Jan. by another member, I managed to get hold of the pattern. It is on my to do list !
Thank you all so much. It was so much fun to see the monkeys come to "life". I mailed pics to QuiltE from my WIP and it took her awile to see the monkeys. lol
I love to look at the pictures posted here and after seeing it in January I HAD to make one. BTW the border is not brown it is also orange, that doesnt show well on the picture. The fabric is called jungle babies from Northcott and I got it at thousand of bolts for less than $5 per yard. |
Great job, love how you figured out how to manage the tails! Any kid would go crazy for this quilt...even (old) me!
That is just about the cutiest quilt I have ever seen. Fantastic!!!
Cute, cute, cute!

The border is perfect ... kind of a burnt orange, 1/2 way between the orange monkeys and the browns! |
Amazing!!!
Great job!
that is such cut guilt
very cute!!!!
Too cute! It turned out great!
this is way more complicated than I would try but I love this quilt! Especially the more subtle grey monkeys going the opposite direction. And thanks for posting the one before it was all joined together! Such soothing colors for using orange (not a particularly soothing color...).
That is so cute-- I love everything about it! I know it had to be hard to keep everything straight. It would have probably driven me crazy, but I'm still going to bookmark it. I know I'll need to give it a try whenever a future grandson comes along!
How did you do the heads? Machine embroidery and applique? What a lot of work! |
It looks much harder than it is! All you need are 42 paper pieced snail trail blocks, one of the easiest blocks for paper piecing.
In my case 14 brown/grey and another 14 in brown/grey as mirror image to the first 14 and 7 in orange/grey and again 7 mirror images of that. If you look at the legs you can see that they are all the same: two turning to the right, two to the left. I printed the paper piecing templetes and colored one of each categorie by hand and then copied the number needed. Then I put it on the floor, was able to see the monkeys and sewed one by one. The last row of triangles I pinned to it and then I could see which four had to go together for the bodies ore the background. Well, I guess I can sew better than explaining..........lol |
That's adorable! Great job!
that is awesome-you did it perfectly.
That's just about the cutest thing!
