Great choice.

It is great as it is! The orange sets off the blocks, and is a nice compliment to the wide border!
I love the orange!

I think you can remedy the overwhelmingness of the orange sashing with some carefully considered quilting. If you chose to do fairly close FMQ in a lighter (even off white) thread on the sashing, that will help it recede into being a frame again, and if your quilting on the basket is far more minimal, they will poof a bit and come to the forefront as you look at the quilt.
In the final analysis though, it's your quilt, your vision, and you make the decisions. You're not going to be happy with your end product if you try to make it a democratic consensus process. RST |
Oh stick with the orange. Your quilt is so fresh and sweet looking. I don't know how else to put it. But I love everything about it.
I love the colors, especially the border fabric, I do think the sashing is a bit bright for the blocks, it is a beautiful color but too much, maybe pickup one of the lighter greens. If that is all you have to rip out it won't be too bad and save them for another project. I think the blocks are great and can't wait to see the finished project. Nice job.

These are not my comfort colors but I like the way the border print coordinates with the orange sashing. I think you color choices are great and I don't think yellow sashing would look good.

RST Last night while I was groaning and sighing with indecision my husband said, "Just redo it. You're obviously not happy with it like it is. It's unlikely you'll be any happier with it when it's completed and then it will be impossible to redo." He added, "When I make my quilts, I make sure my colors are right before I start sewing." Oh good grief, what a dork! (He absolutely has never sewn a single seam in his life by the way) |
i love it...

Rachel -- sounds like you've got some good options. My experience w/ DHs and quilting is -- they mean well, but they don't really know enough to offer sound insights.
My DH does have a good eye for color and design, but he has his own style (very conservative and conventional) and so the advice he gives really doesn't do much to improve my quilts, which are my style (not so conservative, and sometimes more on the quirky side). It was a good day for our marriage when I decided that I'm the quilter, it's my vision, and I'll make it my way. He'll either like the end result or not, and either way, it's fine. RST |
LOL @ your husband!! I think a soft sage green or an apricot will be PERFECT!!
I think the sashing is taking over.
I like the orange with this broader, but if you change the sash to a lighter color, this boarder's colors may be too intense...
I also like the sashing color but is a little loud maybe if you put a thin sahing strip of green between the block proper and the orange sashing it would tone it down and look like leaves> I hate wasting fabric and it means a little reverse sewing to a few blocks so b it. Have fun deciding

I like the orange and with the right quilting the baskets can pop out. It is beautiful...
i like the orange it is very springy and lord knows we need springy this year. Beautiful work.
I would use it but I most definately like the yellow color in the border. Perhaps one of the fabrics that make the triangles and have smaller flowers>
Don't alter a thing. It works beautifully. What a sweet DH.
Dh is right, I would go with the orange because it makes it all pop.
I think the orange detracts from your precious little baskets. But I really like it next to the border. That really works well there. Try a green around the baskets, maybe, or a softer orange.
I think it will be lovely just the way you have it. Very Easter like.
I like it just like it is!!! Your initial instincts are good. Don't go around second guessing yourself!
And you can expect many different answers--how is that going to help you? :) |
I love it the way you have it! That border print really reflects and sets off the baskets. I think once you get it done, you'll like it.
I like it.
I LOVE your basket quilt. don't change ANYTHING unless you are going to add more flowers. I think the orange is absolutely beautiful, and absolutely perfect with the other fabrics. It really is just lovely.
Personally, I like the orange. However, if you don't, then I suggest that while you are at this stage of the game, lay it out with other colors, like the dk green leaf color, bright yellow, maybe even a darker orange, stripe, etc and if you go darker a little smaller width may be necessary. Best to lay them out now and decide than later when you will be ripping.
i like it as is
I like the orange.
I love it
I like the orange but you do see it first and not the basket, but I still think what you have showing is very pretty.
I ;ike your border fabric. The orange sashing is pretty, but too dark for the pastel in your blocks.I would like to see how it looks a shade or two lighter in the orange.

I think it is beautiful. The orange makes the blocks pop. It will be a beautiful quilt when you finish.

RST[/quote] What wise words! |
I think the orange looks really nice.
It looks like it really "pops" the baskets. But you know what you willl like in the end, better than anyone else. So if you aren't happy now you won't be happy when it's finished. Try another color and then decide.
i like it. it finishes it out nicely
I think your quilt as it is a really nice but I agree the orange draws your eye and not the baskets and they are soooo cute. I think a light shade or orange or green would do the trick. I would hate to have to take it apart but it would be a shame to be disappointed in it after all the hard work that went into the baskets.
You have the start of a great strip quilt with orange being your connecting color. I had a similar experience with yellow a while back and it'll appear in projects for years to come. Either way you have a beauty but you have to be happy with it. Once it's quilted you will probably like it more. |

Not all of this is sewn together, and what part of this is sewn is all that I have sewn so seam ripping wouldn't be too terrible. I'd be wasting a lot of fabric though because all my sashing is cut out. I think it is perfect. I love it. So what's everyone's opinion on this issue? DH, who is not really great with colors, thinks the orange is fine and it frames the blocks. He thinks yellow would blend too much but said maybe that's what I wanted. Bless his heart for trying to say the right thing. :) |
