I've got the flowers dealt with and decided on but now I'm stuck on the sashing. This is the color I had picked out from the start that I put in EQ. It looked good on the print out, but now that I have some of it sewn together I think it's way too loud. I feel like it overpowers the baskets and that maybe I should have gone with a pale yellow.
Not all of this is sewn together, and what part of this is sewn is all that I have sewn so seam ripping wouldn't be too terrible. I'd be wasting a lot of fabric though because all my sashing is cut out. So what's everyone's opinion on this issue? DH, who is not really great with colors, thinks the orange is fine and it frames the blocks. He thinks yellow would blend too much but said maybe that's what I wanted. Bless his heart for trying to say the right thing. :) |

In my humble opinion, I think it nicely frames the blocks.
Personally I like the orange & think with pale yellow it would look too washed out.
I like the orange, especially with the wide border. I think it's perfect.
I think you may be right - the baskets do disappear. Pale yellow may be too insipid. How about the green in the border? I guess you just have to try different variations until you are happy.
I really think the orange makes the baskets "pop". I like it the way you have it...Especially with the floral fabric next to it!!!
I think it's perfect, I would bind it in orange too, ties it all togethet.
I really like it the way it is as well. Keep up the good work.
I love it the way you have it!!!
I like it
I like the orange too-especially with that border. The only other color I would go with, if I were to change it, would be a slightly lighter green sashing-it would still go with the border, but I do like what you have!
I really like the orange, and really do think the yellow would just blend.
i love the orange
The sashing pops and comes to the forefront. I don't feel it does your baskets justice.
I think the sashings are perfect! It really sets off the baskets :)
Green!!! :-D LOVE your border fabric!!
PS Well--I've looked and looked and I do like it just as it is too. The orange really looks great next to that gorgeous border!! I'd have to really really not like it to rip it out. |
Rachel, I hate to say this but I also think the orange is a bit loud. I love the border but the fabrics in the baskets are soft (and lovely!)
I would go with a paler version of that orange. You could always save what you cut for another project, maybe?? I also love what you did with the flowers :D HUGS!! Sue |
Or green, that would also be nice for sashing, as others said!

Love it, keep up the great work!
I like it.
I agree! What a gorgeous top - I wouldn't change it, stay with the orange :)

I love orange, too, but I do think that particular orange is too bright for the pastel baskets. I'm liking the idea of a soft Spring green.
I like the orange.
I like the orange, but it does dominate. In the closeup picture, I think I see a lighter orange in one of the half square triangles on the right side. I'm wondering how a softer orange like that shade would look.
The orange is lovely, but it does tend to overpower your lovely baskets. I think a soft green that tones with your border, or even the basket fabric would look lovely.
This is absolutely gorgeous. The colors are beautiful. Keep going and send pics. Thanks for sharing this lovely project.
I like it just how it is....don't forget, when you come to quilt it the quilting design can be used to highlight some areas more than others.
I love it
I do think orange is the way to go for the sashing and I hate to see you have to unsew anything, but I agree that perhaps a lighter orange would showcase your blocks better! The baskets and flowers are precious!!
I like it without the floral border.
I think the orange is perfect. Yellow would be too dull.
I love it, so very pretty.
Well, had I just seen the above picture, I would have said to go with the orange and I do like it. However, I recall how adorable your baskets and flowers are and I think you lose that with the bright orange sashing. With that said, I don't know what to suggest as an alternative sashing color. Someone else said it - - just audition other colors until you find something that does not over power the baskets and flowers. Try laying a large piece of alternate fabric down and put the flower basket blocks on top of it then try them on another color. Good luck. Whatever you do, it will be fabulous. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.
The bright orange overwhelms the pastel baskets. Perhaps the frame could be a spring green. Can't wait to see what you decide.
For me the Orange is the focal point, that is what draws my attention. If that is not what you want, then a softer color like the yellow would be better, so that the baskets is what your drawn to look at.
Please show us what you decide. |
I think I might have just done the cornerstones in the orange and had white for the sashing. I agree that the orange is too powerful and overcomes the lovely baskets. You might audition orher possible choices, including the green that you have in the upper left basket.
It's no waste to change the already cut sashing, as you will surely use it on another project. |
I really like the orange sashing with it.
