I've been asked a couple of times about my avatar quilt and how it's made. Hope these pictures are what you wanted. It's all made with one simple block. It's in the placement of the colors and blocks that you get the pattern. Mine is made of all silk and the colors of the fabric are vibrant and beautiful.

WOW! I love it. It is really beautiful and I am not a "brights" person.

momcpo 05-27-2011 05:21 AM

Thank you! I don't do brights too often, but I fell in love with these silks and had to make a quilt from them. It hangs in my sewing room and I love it too!

Just curious, did you plan the color placement first or make the blocks and arrange them after? The quilt is spectacular!!

I made the blocks first and tried to make a variety so when I put it together I wouldn't have to change too many. I did make extra and did have to change a few. That's how I ended up with the ones I just used to show how it was made.

Just fab"

If you want to see a variation of this simple block go to "a few more quilts from ube" and you will see it is the same block on straight set. The silk one is gorgeous. The ube one is just scraps! It shows us the great variety there is in jut one simple block! :D

Absolutely beautiful. I've never worked with silk for a quilt - it must have been challenging. :-)

It is a beautiful quilt - the silk just adds that little something extra. And, of course, the placememt of the blocks is everything!!!

okiepastor 05-27-2011 01:06 PM

Really pretty--adn so bright...

Jingle 05-27-2011 01:18 PM

Very beautiful.

CIGAINEROJD 05-27-2011 01:47 PM

Beautiful

maine ladybug 05-27-2011 01:52 PM

Sewing the silk really isn't that bad. You just need to have the correct fusible interfacing on the fabric BEFORE you cut your pieces. I have even done a mini with the little leftover pieces from this quilt.

nanababy 05-27-2011 05:03 PM

So cool, I really like it. :-P :-P

Marion T 05-27-2011 05:40 PM

So clever, thanks for the "show and tell" on the blocks. I love the colours. Have never worked with silk - is the quilt washable? What did you use for batting?

Nettie Phillips 05-27-2011 06:03 PM

Beautiful.

cctx. 05-27-2011 06:16 PM

I haven't really given it much thought, but I do think if I needed to I would wash it carefully by hand. I used bamboo batting in it because I liked the soft texture and weight of it. It quilted just as any other quilt would. I didn't do anything differently.
