my back surgery recovery quilt

i had some pretty intense back surgery the end of march of this year. i've only been sewing a little over a year and i really liked that tutorial from #1piecemaker on her double bit axe quilt. she's been trying to get me to hand sew forever now and ive just laughed at her! well...there i was.....fresh out of the hospital, on my side with pillows and ice, head on a pillow, sewing these little pieces together because of my incessant desire to touch fabric! 374 pieces later, bought a hoop online, its all quilted and i absolutely LOVE IT! now im planning my next hand sewn/quilted one! thanks so much for looking and thanks a million to #1 for her fantastic tute and her friendship. ps~this only took me about 8-9 weeks start to finish! thanks for looking!

It is gorgeous! Hope you're fully recovered from your surgery.

Gorgeous and amazing that you could do so much in such a short time after surgery!!!

You did a beautiful job, but I just can't imagine, like you, doing something so amazing all by hand, but then, we play with the cards we're dealt and make the best of it. As I can see by your photo you did just that! I hope by now you're healing and able to get around a little better.

What a great quilt, and what a great spirit you have to have completed it while you were confined to bed. It is quite an accomplishment, and one you are obviously proud of, and really enjoyed. Kudos to you for hanging in there and making a lovely quilt!

Jennie and Me 05-26-2012 12:06 PM

Kudos to you for a job well done. I love scrappies and this pattern sure lends itself to a scrappy. I also congratulate you on making it entirely by hand. I hope your recovery continues successfully and thanks for sharing your quilt.

It makes me think of a rainbow. First, it's as beautiful & colorful as one. Secondly, it's the "good" after the "storm". I hope you're feeling much better & back to sewing up a storm!

lfstamper 05-26-2012 02:33 PM

Very nice. Glad you are recovering!

Gorgeous quilt, so much work, bet it kept your mind off the back pain some. Way to go! St. Maries, we lived in St. Maries, Dad owned the sawmill on the end of town. Is it still there?

QUILTNMO 05-26-2012 04:28 PM

it is very pretty!!!

Homemother 05-26-2012 04:43 PM

What a story! I hope your quilt label describes how and when you made it. It's really pretty! I hand pieced Dimensions by Jinny Beyer and really liked the whole process. It doesn't take as long as it seems it should!

GramaLaura 05-26-2012 04:56 PM

Amazing what one person can do! What a wonderful way to recuperate after surgery, kept your hands and mind stimulated with little movement. I hope you have a quick recovery!

jojosnana 05-27-2012 12:51 PM

I hope you are doing well. The quilt is a wonderful one.

I keep saying it's impossible to piece curved pieces... and quilters like you just keep proving me wrong. LOL. Love the quilt.

caitflynn 05-28-2012 02:23 AM
